Calphalon® Black 2-Slice Toaster
calphalon black 2-slice toaster
works great and is very easy to handle and lightweight!

Offers a variety of settings for thick and thin bread, defrosting, and reheating. Exterior is cool to touch but the grate is not. It's light and easy to store. Cord stows neatly on bottom of toaster. My only hesitation is it feels a bit flimsy compared to my old toaster, especially on the lever to press and grill wires inside.

3rd times a charm
Purchased this to replace a 12 year old Kitchen Aid. Received this item approximately 10 days ago. Used it twice. Today I placed the bread in it, lowered the lever (set on low) & a small flame jumped up out of the corner & toaster shorted out. I thought it was a lightweight out of the box but we don't use toaster that often. Very cheaply made. Back it goes. I'm going for the Kitchen Aid again. At least it won't burn my house down if the kids use it.

I am really enjoying having perfectly toasted toast.

Returned it too soon???
I really liked the way this looked and it had all the right functions but it toasted the two sides very unevenly on the first few toastings so I returned it. So far, out of 6 different makes purchased around town neither a Caphalon (this one at $39.99), Cusinart ($35), Oster (20), nor Sunbeam ($25) has worked properly out of the box, They all toasted one side but not the other or burnt the top and left the bottom untoasted.
My old 1980s proctor-silex works fine but has narrow openings and scarred lever and control end and I was thinking of giving up.
Then I saw a comment on Frugal5 that "Every toaster needs a little use before it will brown toast evenly. Give it about one week of regular use."
Tried the next one for four days (a cheap Oster - $15) and ran it empty once each day as well and it is doing fine now. It started browning one side but not the other like most of the others. With each use the sides got more evenly brown. Wish the instructions would have mentioned giving it some use to see if the elements heated more evenly and I might have kept it.

A really good toaster
I haven't owned an actual toaster in quite some time but after reading online reviews, etc. I knew I was probably not going to be blown away.
I am not blown away by this toaster however, it is nice looking and so far has conquered bread, english muffins & bagels with no mishaps. I am very pleased and would buy another one if the need arose.

I love this toaster! Although it feels a little plastic-y and cheap, it does a good job. It browns toast evenly and the toast pops well above the top, so no need to use toaster tongs or some contraption of forks/knives. The only reason this got 4 stars was because the toaster feels cheap as the outside portion is made of plastic, and the dial doesn't click into one spot, so it is easy to bump and switch the level. Overall, though, I would definitely recommend this toaster!
