Vornado® 7803 Whole Room Stand Air Circulator
I had an older model that lasted me three years I have no A/C, and it does get very hot in south Texas so this one is even better and does an excellent job

Initially loved it, but dissapointed by quality
I went to BB&B to buy a different brand of fan, but when I tried this one, it was clearly the best of it's competitors. I was also very happy that it came on a stand, and this one looked particularly stable. Looks are so deceiving.
When I first set it up, I was able to just tuck it away behind my couch & angle it to cool off my living room very effectively, and I loved it, though I didn't like where the controls were, or that there were only 3 speeds. The oscillating fan made a huge difference, and negated the need for an airconditioner.
However, once I started moving it around the house, it started collapsing. The legs never fit properly or tightly and it only lasted as long as it did in the beginning because it was out of the way. Once it was in a traffic zone, the slightest push would knock all but one of the legs off. I returned it, and did not get a replacement as I don't see how another plastic model of this design would hold up better. I'm hoping that next years models might be made more like I read the old ones were.
This model most certainly is not worth the price!

How Vornado has fallen
Fifteen years ago we bought a Vornado fan on a stand. It has been great and still works. About 6 years ago we bough another Vornado stand fan and it was lesser quality, the grills rattle. Both these fans are stable on their base. The7803 is flimsy and very unstable. It is not stable enough to use with our pets. The quality of Vornado products is far below what it used to be. I doubt we will ever pay their high prices for their current junk.

New design not good, vornado not what it was
We have 3 vornado fans ranging in size and needed one more big one. The new design is plastic where is used to be metal, not as stable and to add to that, after one week, the lowest setting started making a loud humming noise. Returned it for a new one which was easy with bb&b. The new one didn't fit together properly so we returned it. The fan definitely moves air but the cost should be greatly reduced to reflect cheaper materials and a poor design.

does the job
I have been using this air circulator for a week & am amazed at how much air it moves around, does not take long before it makes a major difference in my room. Hopefully the plastic legs hold up over the years & I wish the dial was easier to reach but over all it does cool a large area. Very loud on high so if one is watching TV it will have to be turned up high but small price to pay for being comfortable on hot & humid days.

POWERFUL… BIG… A LITTLE NOISY!
this is much bigger in real life than i would have expected from the photos. not a bad thing per se, but much bigger / wider than the other vornado fans i have.
i bought this because i wanted something to help cool a large living room area. i had tried my smaller vornado in it (i forget the model # but it was 11" diameter) and it just didn't push the air far enough or wide enough. my living room is like 300 square feet. not huge. but the smaller vornado just wasn't doing it. i thought this bigger model ON A STAND would have more air-pushing power, and that if the air was coming from the middle height of the room, it might be more effective felling it at the far end of the room. plus, i liked that this model didn't sit on the floor b/c it's actually my theory (unproven!) that the models that sit on the floor without a taller base probably spew up a lot of dust from the floor! i could be completely wrong about that, but that's just my theory!
so far i LIKE this fan but i DON'T LOVE it! wish i did. the things that aren't so great to me are… 1) VERY NOISY at highest speed. it sounds like you are on an airfield complete with chopping of air! 2) the adjustable height pole is a great idea BUT it needs to go up a little higher; right now at the max position, the top of the fan is 40" to the ground. i ideally wanted to put this behind my couch, but my couch which is pretty average, has a 36" high back. so… this isn't high enough to go behind the couch, where i thought it would be most unobtrusive, because the pole simply isn't that tall! it is 2" wide, and i think i might be able to get some pvc piping from home depot (it does come 2" wide), and see if i can modify that and use it for a taller pole! but it would have been nicer if the pole here were just a tad longer.
overall yes, it does circulate the air nicely. it just does it NOISILY!… but i'd rather have the breeze than not. and my experience with vornado's so far (i have about 4 of them), has been pretty good.

Used to be a good product
I've owned three Vornado fans over the past 10-15 years, all like this model -- i.e., a "whole room stand air circulator." The first one was amazing, with a variable speed setting that didn't limit you to three speeds, but worked like a dimmer on a light switch. It was powerful and effective. The second one was an "updated" model that did away with the "dimmer" feature and had only 3 speeds, but other than that, it worked almost as well as the first one. Happy with our purchases, we eventually bought a third Vornado for another room. Within a couple of years, the motor on two of the three fans (our first and third purchases) gave out. I called Vornado and they comfirmed that the fans had a lifetime warrantee -- if I boxed them up and mailed them to the company at my own expense. As a resident of NYC who, like many New Yorkers, does not own a car, it's no easy task to get a big, cumbersome, heavy box to the post office. Between the hassle and the sheer expense of shipping, the warrantee turned out to be pretty worthless -- I could purchase a new fan for just a few bucks more. And I will -- but it won't be a Vornado. They're more expensive than other fans to begin with, and now they're coasting on their former glory. Save yourself the headache and the money, and go with another brand.
