Best rice cooker and steamer!
I wanted the convenience of a rice cooker, but refused to settle for one with an aluminum cooking pot insert or one that had a non-stick cooking pot, due to health concerns. What a relief to find this dependable stainless steel rice cooker/steamer that gives reliably good results with brown rice and a variety of white rices and so many other foods...it's so much more than "just" a rice cooker...
This makes quick, efficient healthy cooking so much easier, especially in a small kitchen with practically no counter space. I've been using this at least 10x/week for about a year now.
What I like:
*high quality stainless steel cooking pot and steamer basket, safe for food and easy to clean (NO aluminum or non-stick health concerns, no ceramic to chip, and not fragile!)
* easy to select settings with buttons on the front, for white rice, brown rice & grains, pasta/soups/cooking/, steamer, and warmer
*handy markings inside cooking pot tell you how much rice and water to use
*little red and green lights let you know if it's cooking or keeping warm after cooking
*turns itself off when it's done
*beeps quietly to let you know when it's done
*quality glass lid lets you keep an eye on "doneness" if you want your veggies more lightly steamed
*quickly thaws and cooks frozen meats
*FAST, handy, and good results with steamed veggies, whether fresh or frozen (favorites have been fresh corn on the cob, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, sweet potatoes, diced white potatoes...wonderful for QUICK steaming of frozen veggies, with excellent results)
*handy for cooking ground beef in the steamer...the fat drains into the cooking pot beneath while it's cooking...could not be any easier to drain or to clean up after cooking...
*wonderful time-saver for making soups: I can quickly cook a variety of foods, with quick easy clean-up between food variety
*it's like having an extra burner on the stove
*love not having to wait for a big pot of water to boil for cooking pastas, potatoes, corn on the cob, rice, etc, and not having to hunt up a colander to drain afterwards...less dirty dishes to wash...and not having to turn on the oven to bake a few sweet potatoes
*good for cooking smaller meals for just a few people
*glass lid, cooking pot, and steamer basket all go in dishwasher if desired
*comes with a nice grains booklet
*lightweight and takes up almost no space on the countertop
*putting the steamer basket in the cooker while cooking rice prevents getting sticky rice residue spitting out onto your countertop during rice cooking (a common rice cooker problem solved)
*cooking pot can go in the refrigerator later...nice if you want to cook chicken in water to make a broth, then cool the broth to easily remove cooled fat from the top of the broth
*wonderful for a variety of grains!
What I don't like:
*steamer isn't big enough to cook for a larger crowd...you have to cook up a few separate "batches" in some cases, especially for sweet potatoes or corn on the cob
*steamer handles can be tricky to lift up when hot...use a knife or fork to lift them, then use a hot pad to grasp
*there is only one heat setting for cooking, and one for warming
