Rowenta Effective Comfort Iron
Rowenta In-Effective Comfort Iron
This iron was defective and could not maintain heat. I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it going again.

I purchased this iron less than a year ago, and was having very little trouble with it until a few weeks ago. I needed to assemble a felt banner, and turned the iron on to the correct setting and it overheated so bad that it melted the felt onto the soleplate in a horrible mess. I spent over an hour cleaning that mess up just to find that it no longer heats AT ALL!! When I called customer service at Rowenta, they said that it is automatically out of warranty if I cannot produce the receipt. I will never again purchase a Rowenta. I'll stick with a cheap iron that works much better.

Nice weight. Having lots of holes for steam makes it more efficient.

Not "Made in Germany" but still a good iron
This is my 2nd Rowenta Steam Iron. At first I didn't like it because it was lighter than my 1st "Made in Germany" Rowenta iron and it did spit water at times BUT....
after a few uses I noticed: The steam starts instantly and is constant & I wasn't letting the iron get hot enough (which causes spitting water). Now I love it and use it almost every day. The weight of this iron is actually good for me too as I have arthritis in my hands.

Doesn't live up to its reputation.
This is my 3rd and last Rowenta iron. I used to think that this brand was by far the best one out there, but over the past 15 years, it seems that their quality has gone downhill. While this iron was fine when I bought it a couple of years ago, it doesn't steam consistently, nor does the burst of steam function work as it should. The biggest problem, though, is the leaking. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to iron something and continually having to go back over it in an attempt to dry the water spots that have leaked onto it. I'll be switching to another brand with my next purchase.

I LIKE IT!
I chose this iron because it was Consumer Reports best buy.
Initially I bought the Rowenta Effective Comfort Cord Reel Iron, because these two were marked at the same price, found it later this iron wasn't priced marked properly. I returned the Cord Reel Iron because I found it wasn't balanced very well, the cord was to short, and it spat and leaked when I first used it, I didn't read the reviews till now. Upon exchange I got the proper price.
This time I read the instructions before I used it. Found out there is a first use instructions as follows: Fill with water, turn off the steam, set to max temp, plug in and wait till it reaches operating temp, light turns off, over a sink pump the steam button 3 times.
It took me five pumps of the steam button to finally get a consistent amount of steam out of the iron. I kept pumping for several more times because it was rather awe inspiring to watch the amount of steam it produced. I unplugged it, let it cool down and did a load of laundry.
Got my dress shirts ready and started ironing. All I can say is WOW!!!! This is an awesome iron! No spitting, dripping, prodigious amount of steam evenly distributed over the sole of the iron. No issues what other had reported, what-so-ever.
I really like the narrow tip for getting around buttons. My only wish is that they put a couple of steam holes in the tip.
So if you get this iron, follow the instructions for the first time use, and I don't think you will experience any of the issues others have reported.
Also the instructions state that it's designed for tap water use. I live with very hard water and have learned just to use distilled water to get the longest life out of an iron. There are instructions for descaling the iron if you use tap water on a regular basis. But who does that? Just make your life easier by using distilled water and you won't need to descale on a regular basis, or do what most people do, do it when there are issues, but by then it's to late.
About my only complaint, is that this iron produces to much steam. I can only get through 4 shirts before I have to refill the reservoir with the steam setting on the second to lowest setting.

Terrible iron - spews water everywhere - leaks. This is the second one and it's going back to the store. NO more Rowenta for me.

Would not recommend
I was scanning the reviews today in an effort to see if it was only me having issues with this iron but happy to see I'm not the only one.. Admittedly I purchased this iron from BBB in 12/2011 but it has been a nightmare from the start & I'm finally giving in to it & shopping around for a new & different brand.. I purchased a Rowenta because I was told its the Mercedes of irons but I guess only in price not in quality.. So once again I'm iron shopping a task I dislike but I'm backed into the ironing board corner.. Many thanks to all that wrote reviews on this iron it helped me to shake my "it must be me" headache.. I believe in one of the reviews it stated "people that are writing bad reviews must have just gotten a defective one"(pp); but when so many people write bad reviews about the same product it makes you wonder just how many defective ones were shipped out from the manufacturer..
