Wait for batteries????
I loved this thermometer when I first purchased it. I used it for close to a year with no problems. When my 2 month old was exposed to a child with pertussis I had to carefully monitor his temp. Day 1 was fine... Day 2 battery dies! I went to 3 stores looking for a replacement and ended up having to purchase them online. Wile waiting for new batteries I used a cheap old digital. Batteries finally came and the unit still did not work! I purchased a brand new unit (different brand) and called safety 1st and demanded a refund!

save your money
I dont typically write reviews unless I love a product because I understand anyone can have a bad experience with any product/service but this is a ridiculous failure of a product and could lead to fairly severe consequences. Take the $20 you were going to spend on this product and put towards something that actually works. Otherwise, you'll spend that money and even more when you have to go buy something that works.
Pro: its quick
CON: ALWAYS inaccurate and ALWAYS low.
Im a nurse, I know how to take a temp, and I read the instructions, so its def. not user malfunction. I took it to the doctor's office with my child to test this out because I suspected something was not quite right: the rectal temp my doctor's thermometer read was 99.1, the rectal temp using this thermometer was 97.0. I would expect some discrepancy given the vast quality difference between the two thermometers, but 2 degrees is ridiculous. Hypothetical situation: if my thermometer reads a temp of 98.9 (within normal limits) but my baby's temp is actually 101, there is a big difference in how I would continue caring for the child (i.e. frequent temp monitoring, call to the pediatrician, ER visit, etc.). Also, it read my oral temp at 94.1, which is usually around the high 97s. If my oral temp is 94, Im about to go into hypothermic shock...
So just save yourself the hassle and buy something that works

DO NOT purchase this product
The battery died very fast on this product. Even better, this product is made with a battery model that is NOT sold in any convenience or drug stores! How is that "safety 1st" when your child is running a high fever, the thermometer dies, you run to several drugstores and NONE sell the replacement battery! Best yet, the company essentially told me "tough luck" when I contacted them.

My husband and I bought this thermometer over a year ago. It still works today and we haven't had to change the battery yet. Just because a battery dies early doesn't mean the whole line is a bad product. I like this set because doctors like a rectal temp for infants, and this only allows u to go in so far. So u don't have to be afraid u are in too far. It also comes with the other attachments so u only need one thermometer for the whole family.

The batteries die very quickly. I would not purchase another Safety 1st thermometer. This is my second and last one.
