Great fan, worth the price
I've had this fan for going on 17 years now (yeah you read that right). I bought it when I was 14, and while mine is the variable speed model (my only loathe of Vornado - getting rid of variable speed controls) this fan is amazing. I currently have it in my office, it's been all over my garage, house, office. When I travel, I take it with me. It will cool down or warm up a hotel room within minutes of turning on the A/C or heat in a hotel. My fan has got more battle scars than I can count, but the thing won't stop running. Every few months or so I oil it (which Vornado implicitly tells you NOT to) but I strongly recommend thoroughly cleaning and oiling it periodically. Take it apart, oil it, get any hair, dust, grease etc off the fan and blades. I have 4 Vornados, and I recommend their products to everyone. Vornados move a large amount of air, and consequently with that, are more susceptible to premature wear and tear as a result.

Amazing for a few years...
I sleep with a fan on full blast at all times for the noise. I've gotten so used to it, that even in the winter, my fan is going at night. This fan is super powerful and for about three years, was worth the price. In the last year, it has been making a weird screeching sound. It has gone from kind of annoying to absolutely horrible (reminds me of a dying animal). I turned it on tonight after being off for over a week, and the screeching was UNBEARABLE. It also started doing this weird vibrating thing. Needless to say, I think it's pretty much shot. I cannot sleep without a fan, so I'm VERY bummed that my fan had to die on me while out at school (rural area, definitely no BB&B nearby). I want to purchase another fan, but I'm worried it will only last me a few years before the same thing happens again.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED
LOOKING FOR FAN THAT WOULD HELP BY COLLEGE AGE SON, SLEEP @HOME DURING SCHOOL BREAKS. DOES NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN, LEAVING HIS SCHOOL FAN BEHIND. WHEN HE IS NOT HOME, IT IS MY TIME TO BENEFIT.
