Umbra® Solutions Swing Rods
Poor design - lean down at 20 degree angle
the design is poor - the rod leans down from where it meets the mounting/swing hardware about 20 degrees - and drops a couple inches. Look terrible as curtain is then uneven across the top (jncreasing gap from frame). it is a basic design defect in that the rod can jostle around in the swing hardward and doesn't have a proper sleeve to hold it in a solid 90 degree straight out position. and there is no way to correct it other than buying some hardware that would hold up the far end of the rod to make it level across. but then the swing is defeated. I'm rather baffled why this obvious and seemingly basic redesign is allowed to persist. Very disappointed - returned.

swing arm rods
These rods worked great for a fabric curtain to cover my hallway w/d appliances. It's a large panel and I use the arm a lot. Each time I do laundry I open it etc.

These rods were easy to install and are just the thing to add insulated cover when needed and provide a full view when opened back. They do not obstruct passage. I hung mine just outside the frame of the door to the deck. Only negative I have is that it doesn't come in white. But, I can easily paint it.
I ordered in the store with the help of the man who works in the drapery department. He was priceless in Northpoint Shopping Center.

I thought this was the answer to a problem and it wasn't. The design does not allow for any weight on the rod, so the rod droops. I have tried to rig something up that would rectify the problem, but it just can't do what is is designed for. The concept is excellent, but the designer needs to go back to the drawing board!

Umbra swing rod rusted
I was happy with the service and the ease that the store rep. made it for us to order. It was a little confusing when the order was split. It could be a little larger or bolder type to make the split order more visible. The second half of the order came in and it was obvious that the merchandise was rusty in the package. I was able to wipe off the majority of the rust, and it is not very noticeable when mounted. I find it hard to believe that it did not get that way in the warehouse. Otherwise I am pleased with the company and their service.

Just what I needed
The swing out feature is perfect for my front door (Full Lite) I can swing the sheers open during the day and enjoy the view. At night I swing them shut for privacy.

I wanted a way to provide privacy to our bedrooms at night while still keeping the doors open for air circulation. I also wanted to block light at night coming from the night time readers rooms. These rods solved both problems. I simply hung them at the opening of bedroom doors, and hung room darkening curtains. (not the foam backed or they also block air flow) We swing them over to block our half-way opened doors at bedtime. Not only do we have the privacy that we needed without losing air flow, but we also now have a darkened room when someone else is reading in their room down the hall or watching TV in the living room. When these curtains are in place it is considered with the same respect in our house as a closed bedroom door.

Perfect for my door
These swing rods make it possible to access the outdoors while keeping my room warm and cozy. The area where I used them had an adjustable rod which necessitated removal each time I wanted to open the door. Now all I do is swing the rod back and I can open the door.
