Terrible
Item will not charge any of the new Apple gizmos. Charges my Samsung tablet just fine but would not charge iPhone 5 or iPad mini. Seems anything on the new lightning cord is a no-go. We explained it to the folks at the store and they took it back no problem. This probably makes this item unusable for 50% of phone owners and 80% of tablet owners. Vivitar better get it together.

Worked for 10 minutes - maybe
I bought this with middle-of-the-road expectations since Vivitar is a household name. I have wanted an outlet to plug in USB ports, but have not installed one yet. I bought this as a good temporary solution. Based on the cost of this item I did not have high expectations, but this thing only lasted 10 minutes (maybe). I say maybe because my phone only charged about 8% after an hour on the charger and that is about 10 minutes of charge. I checked to make sure it was not the outlet or the charge codr for my phone - I moved this device to a new outlet - nada. I plugged in another phone, with different cord, - nothing. I plugged my phone using the power outlet plug, and that worked.
Long story short - I will be returning this for a refund. If you do not mind making 2 trips to the store, give it a try. I personally do not recommend it. (Just my opinion - if it works for you, that's great.).

Works for me
I needed something to add USB ports to my electrical outlets and saw this.
I have not had any problems with it. I like the detachable shelf feature. It has worked well for me and charges my devices with no issues.

Good idea, bad execution
I love the idea of this product. It seems very useful. However, it doesn't work. The things on the side aren't big enough to hold a real cable. The first one we got sparked and stopped working after 2 days. We exchanged it for a new one. The second one would work for a while and then start going in and out until it eventually stopped working after about 4 days. I only had 2 things plugged in at one time (my laptop and my cell phone) so it's not like I was overloading it or anything. Bed, Bath & Beyond did allow us to return the second one. I guess we'll just buy something else. They were very polite and helpful.
