Overpriced Cheap Plastic
After years of central vac. in our house we decided to purchase a Dyson DC33. The first impression after putting it together was that the plastic used to make this vacuum felt cheap and fragile. Considering all the attachments, hose clips, and release buttons to remove various items off the vac. feels like they are bound to break over a short period of time.
The vac. performed great on carpets and ok on non-carpeted floors.
The wand, attachments and hose were very difficult to operate considering you need to use them since the vacuum head is to big to fit under a couch or under the cabinets or along the underside of a bed. Anything under 3 inches it isn't fitting under. So move all the furniture out of the room before using it if you want to attempt to get under anything.
I returned it the same day.

Not as good as older versions
I think around 2001 or 2002, we bough our first Dyson upright and were very pleased. After so many years it just wore out. Then around 2010 we bough the DC33 and were deeply disappointed. The quality of the plastic was considerably cheaper. Instead of three feet including a wide, a pointy, and a round brush with hair that connected, there was one cheap plastic fitting. They really cut corners in this one. :-(
The vacuum suction worked good at first. Then after a year, it would not vacuum very well anymore. To try and resolve the problem, I thoroughly cleaned all of the parts and the filter; I replaced the hose, and still the suction was very poor. After a while, I finally gave up and bought a different brand of upright vaccum cleaner.
I will not buy Dysan agan!

DC33 Difficult to use
I find the DC 33 difficult to use and maintain. We have a small cat, and my wife spends 5-10 minutes after each vacuuming cleaning the carpet brushes. I know that Dyson markets vacuums specifically for pets, but I didn't expect that the DC33 would be this maintenance intensive.
The extension hose is very stiff. It really is virtually unusable. We haul out the old central vacuum every time we need to use an extension vs dealing with the DC33 hose. I certainly didn't expect this from a Dyson vacuum.
Needless to say, I'm disappointed.

Beyond impressed!!
First off, we have 2 dogs, a Golden Retriever (HUGE shedder) and a German Shepherd (the BIGGEST shedder of the 2). My husband and I did a little test with this specific Dyson when we purchased it: I sat down on the floor before vacuuming and got up with a TON of dog hair on my jeans.. Lint rolled my pants clean and then vacuumed the carpet on medium pile and redid the test and I'm here to tell you there was NO dog hair on my jeans! I couldn't even scrap up dog hair with my hands! I couldn't believe that it cleaned up THAT well - plus, you could see all of the hair in the canister that it picked up and I honestly couldn't believe there was THAT much dog hair on the carpet to begin with!! SOO IMPRESSED!! I still can't believe we originally wanted another model, but we are beyond happy that we decided to go with this one! I love that it has the multi floor option (deep pile, medium pile, short pile and bare floor) and that it picked up EVERYTHING. You will not be disappointed with this purchase - it's worth every single penny!!
