Hoover Max Extract 77 Detergent goes right through
I have always loved Hoover carpet cleaners untilmy husband bought me the 77. It worked positively great at first and my carpets were positively clean and bright. Then I noticed the detergent stem & spring were up in the detergent reservoir. I tried to replace it but to no avail. The detergent pours right through and down the sink drain. I won't say that I haven't used other cleaners I have but only sprayed another cleaner on the problem areas. This cleaner was purchased just over 1 1/2 years ago. we are getting ready to sell our house and have to go purchase another machine. Maybe I should start looking at Bissell. Hoover please fix my cleaner please

Hoover Max Extract 77
I previously owned a Hoover Carpet Cleaner for about 15 years. It was one my children had borrowed and used and abused. It seemed a no brainer to buy another "great" Hoover product.BIG MISTAKE!!!! I purchased the Hoover Max Extract from our local Wal Mart. It was used 3-4 times over 6 months and then began dumping water from the clean water into the "dirty water" reservoir. We called Hoover and found the nearest service center was 1.5 hours away, but felt it was worth it to get it repaired. When it worked, it was great. The repair was suppose to take 2 weeks. It actually took over 6 weeks. We got it back, started to use it, and it started to do the exact same thing. This is a terrible expense to lose all the cleaning solution each time. We called Hoover Customer Service again. This time we declined to have the machine repaired and elected to receive a new machine. This required cutting off part of the old cord and mailing it and the model sticker to Hoover. In less than 2 weeks, I received the new machine delivered directly to my home. It was the next week before I had time to work on my carpets. Guess what? You got it! This machine not only dumped part of the water into the lower reservoir, but mostly all over the carpet too! At this point I simply wanted my money back. Wal Mart only allows for returns 90 days after purchase. After calling Corporate, they refuse any refund and want me to mail the cord and sticker again so they can send me another "new" machine. This leaves me the expense of disposing of 2 more machines. Will another one work? Based on other reviews---probably not. So basically I am out $300 plus the time and expense driving here and there and disposing of useless machines! If I could give no stars I would. It is a major design issue which Hoover is unwilling or unable to correct. So the warning here is do not waste your time or money on this product

When it works, it's great! However...
This machine when it works is great! However, the problem has been keeping it working. I purchased this machine the end of March 2013 and it already has had two problems. I know that it's all plastic so I make sure to be very careful when using it. But geez... two problems already in only a couple of months. The first problem was that the nozzle assembly seal failed and would leave dirty water inside the plastic. You couldn't get it out. When I received the new part, I saw that they had redesigned the part and placed two drain holes in the assembly to allow water to drain. I most likely wasn't the first one to have that problem. Today, I pulled it out of the closet to do a little spot cleaning and when I stepped on the latch to release the handle, the tab that locks the handle in the upright position broke off. So now, the handle will not stay upright or lock into storage position. Prior to this I owned a Platinum Max Extract for five years with no problems. I purchased another Hoover floor cleaner because I was very happy with the Max Extract Platinum. So far I am very disappointed. If it didn't break so easy, I'd give it a better rating!

Doesn't hold up with modest use.
Got through 3 rooms, and the whole gear assembly in the cleaning head melted. For so little use, i expected it to hold up much better. No listing for local parts so now i have to wait.
