Dyson DC39 Animal Canister Vacuum
The DC39 Animal vacuum includes a mini turbine head tool to remove pet hair and dirt from tight spaces. Dyson's Radial Root Cyclone technology reconfigures air channels to reduce turbulence and preserve air pressure, so the inner cyclones can extract more microscopic particles and expel cleaner air. Suitable for all floor types, the DC39's Triggerhead tool is the only turbine head controlled at the handle with a fingertip control that switches the brush bar off for delicate rugs and hard floors and switches on for high pick-up on carpets. With a central steering mechanism and Dyson Ball technology, the DC39 turns on a dime to give you greater control and easily moves around obstacles. The clear bin, made from tough polycarbonate, allows you to see when it's full and empties at the push of a button. Includes non-removable HEPA filter. Five-year manufacturer's warranty. UL listed. Imported.

Very Pleased
I just received my first Dyson. I bought it because I want a vacuum that is powerful, reliable, and durable. I am impressed with the suction; I could not believe the amount of dust and dirt the machine picked up. I contacted the Support line, and I found them to be courteous, patient, and knowledgeable. I have all of the attachments and I tried them all, cleaning from floor to ceiling. I need to get used to not having a bag and emptying the canister into the trash; the dust particles can fly up so I may get a mask due to asthma. Also, I want to keep the canister dust-free so I will be using gloves to wipe the inside after each use with a damp cloth.

Buyer's Regret
I was impressed with the Dyson upright vacuum when I visited my sister and used hers. But her house is all carpeted and mine is not so I looked into a vacuum that could handle all the dog hair (I have two xtra large dogs) and some carpets/area rugs and hard floors. I wish I hadn't bothered. The suction is great and there is a lot of dirt and hair that I find in the cannister, but the ability to go from carpet to hard floor is horrible. I find that it vacuuming is the like training for a weight lifting contest. My back hurts when I am finished because I have to pull and push so hard to get the machine to move across the floor. When I am vacuuming the hard wood or tile floors I find that the dirt is being blown around and then the end piece is sticking to the floor because the suction is so great.
I am really disappointed that I spent so much money on this vacuum and I have to work out each time I use it. I tried to like it. I kept using it and telling myself that it was a great vacuum that works wonderfully...but I am fooling myself. It is a great vacuum that has incredible suction, but there needs to be some changes to its abilities to do carpet and other floors.

Dyson animal rolls over hair & leaves it behind
My partner bought this a year ago. While it works decent on hard surfaces, it fails to pick up hair and fuzz on carpet. It also collects hair on the base. I have never had a vacuum that needs to be vacuumed. I feel the bagless canister is misleading as it seems full of hair/dirt so quickly & you have to dump it so frequently, yet get close to me carpet & it is covered with dog hair.

More than a year in use
We've had our DC39 more than a year, have three dogs and a cat that all live in our house. I have to say it is probably the easiest vac I have had to perform maintenance on. We've had a number of others but this one is easy to take apart and clean. Haven't had any trouble with belts (which in others used to heat up hair and smell) or suction. Only things I would change is the way the handle attaches and the switch for going from hard floor to carpet. Other than that this has been a champ of a vacuum.
