Flavor Injector beneficial
I wouldn't make a turkey without one. I have made turkeys without the injector, and you taste very little difference in the meat itself. When I started injecting with flavor, or basting by re-injecting the juices, everyone says it is the best I have ever made. It is also much more moist. As for the previous raters comment about oiling the syringe first, I never do that and it works just fine. There is no leaking.

Waste of time
Bought one from my local store, seemed like it would work ok. Went to use for first time, oiled plunger and tried to suck up marinade but plunger was so loose it would not form any suction got some fluid above plunger and it would suck up some, was able to inject pork shoulder but was very messy because of having to keep fluid above plunger to work at all. Returned today no hassle
