Losing prestige
I have had 3 espresso machines like this model XP 1020 in 6 years, because it is easy to use and I like its style and price with a bed bath and beyond coupon discount. Never I have used to return this product, and I bought it again and again for the Brand name and price, but, this time I said: I am disappointed on this espresso machine and returned it to my favorite store, BB&Beyond. Before, Krups manufactured better, but, now I think there is something wrong manfacturing a coffee maker that always it have had prestige. This time I was prepared to make an excellent espresso coffee in the morning, and, terrible, the water did not turn hot, then, I tried again, and nothing! I already returned the product and received my store credit. But now I tried another brand name.

Returned it the night we bought it.
I have a Rancillio Silvia espresso machine that has made fabulous espresso for 5 years now. I had to take it in to be serviced at a local specialty shop. I'm Spoiled now cant stand drip anymore after my owning my Rancillio I love my morning latt'e so I run over to bed bath and beyond to pick up a French press coffee maker and their nifty aero latté milk frother my husband being the sweetheart he is was looking at the espresso makers and he pointed out why not buy the Krups model XP 1020 espresso machine for the same price so with some reluctance because I had not had the chance to read reviews on the machine I bought it took it home to try it out it performed like a piece of junk made a huge mess out of steaming milk and squirted out some thick black coffee with the grounds mixed in minus any crema I felt afraid of the thing possibly getting to hot and exploding and I read in another review here one actually did.I have a Rancillio Rocky coffee grinder so I used the same grind consistency I used in my high end Rancillio espresso machine and it just did not work for me I cleaned it up took it back and bought the Bodum French press coffee maker and the aero latté milk frother and this combo has made very good coffee very close to what a very nice espresso machine might do pass up the Krupps Model XP 1020 and buy a French press and a little battery operated milk frother you will be satisfied with the result and the lack of a mess to make delicious latt'e type coffee for same price.

Not bad for the price
I am not a connoisseur of espresso but have been drinking cappuccino and latte for years. I agree with the previous comment. from nick out of California. Follow his directions for making latte and cappucino's. It is the same method I have used with this and other cheaper brands. The only thing I would add is that, we find no fat or 1% milk the best for frothing. As far as leaking from the top or exploding be careful that you screw the lid on hand tight. If not you may compromise the gasket. Otherwise the people with leaking or other, may have gotten a lemon. For the money this has been my longest lasting machine, over 4 years now, brewing 4 cups a day and my wife sometimes leaving the machine on overnight. I have had mr.coffee and other machines that don't last a year for this kind of money. As they say you get what you pay for and in this price range I would say by far this is the best machine.

Does a very good job
We have had this device for several years now and I am simply getting a new one. You can spend double or tripple the amount of money if you want, but it will not make a better latte. I read the reviews and they are simply wrong. 1. You must use correctly ground coffee (espresso only). 2. Heat the milk (1 min in microwave is perfect). 3. Do not start steaming the milk until after coffee has filled at least half the carafe. 4. After you have created the foamed milk with the steamer, let the device complete making the remaining coffee. I have made at least several hundred lattes this way. Although the carafe says 4 cups, it makes two perfect lattes every time.
