stay away from DeLonghi The worst customer service on the planet, a week after I purchased something went wrong and customer service was not helpful and unwilling to give me a new machine. Foffee is luke warm at best and if you have a problem DeLonghi does not care. It is not worth buying any DelLonghi product when cust. service is soooo poor February 18, 2013
Satisfied but not impressed I've had this machine for about five months now and have been satisfied but not impressed. The steam indicator light never turns to green, so as long as the coffee light turns to green, I steam my milk. I don't like the cappuccino frother. It creates way to many bubbles too fast; I would only be half-way through steaming and have bubbles brimming out the top, so I would have to stop and let the bubbles go down. I did away with using that pretty fast because I can make great foam without it, however, the steam wand comes off about a third of the time, so then I have to fish it out of the carafe with tongs. I was disappointed with the filter sizes also because the small size is smaller than a coffee scoop and the larger size is about 1 1/4 coffee scoops. My last machine filters were the sizes of one and two coffee scoops--truly a single and double shot. It took me awhile to figure out just the right amount of tamping and coffee too. You definitely can't fill the filter to the brim! You need a good 1/8" of room at the top of the filter. I don't think this machine takes well to hard tamping either, just a little though. The machine is also highly pressurized, much more than my last one, so if you only make one cup, don't remove the filter until the next time you use the machine. If you're making more than one cup, give the machine some time to cool down. It came with descaler, which I've used once, and the machine worked great afterward. Overall, I'm satisfied, but I'll be happy to upgrade once this one breaks. The flavor of the coffee is perfect and it creates a lot of beautiful crema on top. You can't fit much under the filter though; I use a small plastic container to catch my coffee. February 25, 2012
Steer clear I had this machine less than 8 months and i used it at least once a day. I found that it made a great cup of espresso using packaged ground, however on or about the 8th month the milk frofher just stopped working. Well I could still enjoy my espresso but I had to make Cappuccinos and lattes the old fashioned way on the stove top. The wand was also rather short which made it difficult to serve company in a brief amount of time w/o people waiting around. October 18, 2011
Not too impressed : ( First let me begin by saying that my first espresso machine was a Cuisinart (the same price as this DeLonghi machine). I had it for two years before it started making weird electrical sounds and the bottom of the drip tray began rusting. It still worked great and it was hard to give up because I thought it was worth the $200 we paid for it. Since the electrical sounds worried me, though, I had to take it back to Bed, Bath and Beyond to exchange it. I had to choose whether to get another Cuisinart exactly like I had before or get this DeLonghi machine. I chose to try the DeLonghi because I knew the Cuisinart may start rusting again. As soon as I opened it up when it arrived at my house, I was disappointed. The entire machine is made of plastic and so lightweight! It looks nice because it's all silver and sleek looking. Don't be fooled! I had to hold down the entire machine with one arm while I twisted the portafilter holder into place. It is not worth $200! I ended up taking the DeLonghi back to Bed, Bath, and Beyond after two weeks of trying it out. I just couldn't take it anymore! I ended up getting a Gaggia Classic. I had to pay a little more money for the Gaggia but so far, it's totally worth the extra cash! I used to work as a barista and the Gaggia Classic is like a mini version of what I used at the coffee shop I used to work in. If you don't have the extra cash to get the Gaggia, I'll leave you with this information. If I were given the choice to give the Cuisineart another chance or the DeLonghi, I'd pick the Cuisinart in a heartbeat! It might give you the same problems I had in the end, but the great thing is that Bed, Bath and Beyond has a GREAT return policy! I hope this helps you and saves you some trouble! Happy Espresso Machine Hunting! : ) August 29, 2011
