Not for plush/thick carpet
We have brand new (plush/thick) carpet in a relatively small apartment. We also have tile and hardwood, so I thought the Dyson multi-floor would be the perfect solution. I had tried a Shark model first that absolutely bogged down in my carpet, so I bit the bullet for the price of the Dyson, only to find...THE SAME THING.
Both units performed well on the hard-surface floors, but both completely bogged down in the carpet. They made a sound like they had sucked up a sock (when they had simply completely sucked up the carpet pile) and refused to move an inch until turned off.
We took a video of the way it bogged down and trekked to the Oreck store. The rep there quickly said we needed a different kind of vac for plush/thick carpet. Left with an Oreck Magnesium and assurances that we could easily return if we weren't happy. The rep was certain we wouldn't return it, though, and he was right!! I don't think I've ever loved a vacuum so much. It's lightweight, easy to maneuver, has a super-long cord, is easy to push across the carpet, and does a great job removing dust & debris.
Skip the Dyson marketing hype and pretty design, and opt instead for the actual FUNCTION and quality of Oreck.
**I should note that BB&B was absolutely lovely about returning both the Shark and Dyson models that did not work for me. Hassle-free ease of returns is one reason I'm a devoted BB&B shopper. Their vacuums just weren't right for us.

My investment
I recent;y quit my job and with decided to use some of my last check towards a Vacuum that I really wanted to use since I would be spending more time at home. I fell in love with this model. I bought it because I know Dyson is a reliable product that has yet to fail my parents and even myself as I used theirs. My DC33 is wonderful! I got one that is sliver gray red and an electric blue color. Glides over the carpet and tile easily. There is a loud chirp/suction noise that comes on when the vacuum is turned on or off but it doesn't bother me. Overall I'n very pleased with my purchase and would buy another would buy one for a friend or if someone told me that were thinking about getting one I might be prompted to force and or help them achieve that ;) Dyson is just an amazing company.

Not as good as older versions
I think around 2001 or 2002, we bough our first Dyson upright and were very pleased. After so many years it just wore out. Then around 2010 we bough the DC33 and were deeply disappointed. The quality of the plastic was considerably cheaper. Instead of three feet including a wide, a pointy, and a round brush with hair that connected, there was one cheap plastic fitting. They really cut corners in this one. :-(
The vacuum suction worked good at first. Then after a year, it would not vacuum very well anymore. To try and resolve the problem, I thoroughly cleaned all of the parts and the filter; I replaced the hose, and still the suction was very poor. After a while, I finally gave up and bought a different brand of upright vaccum cleaner.
I will not buy Dysan agan!
