so disappointed
Well, I am beyond disappointed. I asked my husband for this item for one of my Christmas gifts to replace my 30.00 Black and Decker blender that I have had for a few years. I have a smoothie for breakfast and dinner every day.
Right before Christmas my blender finally died so I was thrilled that my husband actually got me this blender! Tonight, April 10th - I am making my dinner, pick up the carafe and realize that it is broken. Smoothie is leaking all through the bottom of it. It was absolutely fine this morning, now it has this huge space in it, can't tighten it - I am one unhappy camper.
I am assuming that Bed, Bath and Beyond is not going to give us any sort of exchange - and seeing the other comments, looks like KitchenAid may not be very helpful either, Fan-freakin-tastic.

Carafe is a piece of junk
After going through five, yes I did write five carafes in 15 months, Kitchen Aid refunded my money. Every one started to leak, and this is the NEW design. All I used the blender for was to make Smoothies every morning with lots of frozen fruit, 16 ozs of soy milk and 8 ice cubes.
The customer service was fantastic, wonderful people. The motor is very powerful, a bit noisy, but the Carafe is a total piece of junk.

Love this Blender!
Like healthnut30 said in a previous review, the previous model is the one that has the carafe leak. This blender is amazing. My husband and I got it for our wedding and we use it at least once a day (sometimes more). We've never had a problem with it and have highly recommended this model to all of our friends!

Bad design
After just five uses, the carafe started to leak. The blade mechanism is poorly constructed and the retaining nut loosened allowing for the leak to occur. Not worth the price paid.
The blender base is solid and the power is adequate, but what does this matter if the carafe design is inadequate. Don't know why KitchenAid has not addressed this design flaw.
