Gorgeous set, but a very bad purchase
We were very excited to find this set -- spent awhile trying to come up with exactly what we were looking for, and this fit the bill nicely. We bought 12 place settings, figuring we'd be all set for a long time to come.
A few months later, the first casualty -- my husband poured a cup of coffee, and --pop! -- the mug cracked, spilling coffee all over the counter. A few months later, it was a small plate -- 45 seconds in the microwave to reheat a slice of lasagna, and a few seconds after taking the plate out... pop! again.
Since then we lose a piece every few months or so. A few more have come out of the dishwasher with cracks running all the way through.
The first few pieces, we called Mikasa, and they sent "one-time" complimentary replacements. But this happens so frequently, we've given up on calling. We will likely just keep using this set until it dwindles down enough that we have to buy something else :-/ Not made by Mikasa :-/
I told Mikasa that all of these breakages were during careful and routine use -- no accidental mishandling -- and that the set seemed to be defective. They told me that they hadn't heard any other complaints. Hmm. Maybe they should read BBB reviews.
As much as we love this set, this has proven to be a very bad purchase for us. And an expensive mistake.

not happy
Initially I was very pleased with these dishes- the color and style were unique and fit our taste. The employee that helped us with our registry assured us that they were of better quality than the dishes displayed in the store- so we chose them. Soon after starting to use them they started to crack and chip. This was normal use too- I do not use a dishwasher and we are not rough with them. For example one time putting a scoop of hot corn on the plate- i heard and watched the plate crack right down the middle- what good is a plate if you cannot put hot food on it. We had them under a year and lost 2 plates, 1 salad plate, and have chips or nicks on the outsides of more than 1 of the bowels. VERY DISSAPPOINTED

Disappointment
Beautiful dishes however multiple pieces have cracked in the microwave. Two of the coffee mugs split down the middle when pouring hot water into them. We have only had these dishes just over a year!
