Many Design Problems
Numerous problems with this device:
- Carafe is poorly designed. It's almost impossible to pour from without spilling some coffee. It also makes it impossible to fill the reservoir without spilling water onto the counter.
- After a period of use, the reservoir leaks. This makes it impossible to set up for timed brewing as the water will end up all over the kitchen.
- The reservoir hinge pin works out over time. It has to be pushed back in. Until it's reset, the brew basket is inaccessible.
- Once the "clean" light goes on, it won't go off despite multiple cleanings and change of filters.
Overall, this coffee maker is a poor buy. I'd expected better quality from KitchenAid.

Go for a Mr. Coffee!
I really was excited about this one when we registered for it. Unfortunately, so much steam leaks out the top and around the electronics that our first one broke before we were married for 5 months. Thankfully they have a decent warranty so we got to replace it for free. We have only had it for about three days and it looks like it is going to have the same issues again! Will use it til it stops working but after that I think we'll be going with Mr. Coffee as all the electronics are located at the bottom. Not as fancy, but a good track record and better design.

Free revised lid stops overflow while brewing!!
If your coffee spills onto your counter while brewing, this is important to read! I had given a 5 star review 1 year ago. A couple months ago the coffee started flowing onto my counter when brewing. I decided to order a new lid because I could hear so much fluid in it, I figured the coffee didn't have enough of a reserve. When I called to "buy" a lid, they sent a new revised lid for free!! This new lid has no reserve area, and I don't see how it could ever overflow again. The new lid has a big circle with an X shape in the middle, BIG arrows, and much easier to hold.

Love it!
Received this as a wedding gift. I have had a lot of coffee pots through out the years and this one is by far the best! as the previous review, I was also spilling the coffee but it was because I didnt have the arrow( on the lid to the carafe) positioned to the spout and havent had any problems since. Love this product and am purchasing one for the grandparents for Christmas! :) Happy Holidays!!
