An Insult to the Quality of Most Oxo Products
I own hundreds of dollars worth of Oxo kitchen tools. I love virtually all of their products...but this rotary grater is useless, poorly designed, and all-around awful.
I have no idea how this design got by the QA/QC department at Oxo.
Cheese frequently jams between the rotary grater and the plastic casing. The amount of force required to operate the device with hard cheese is so great that the grater casing comes apart when exerting sufficient pressure. Speaking of which, I have no idea how anybody with reduced strength or dexterity could use this device.
I know the design looks great on the shelf. When I bought it I was so excited. But it is trash. Bed Bath and Beyond - I have to assume you are one of Oxo's top accounts. You have the leverage to demand a better product to put on your shelves. You should exert that clout and get them to fix this lousy product from an otherwise excellent producer of quality kitchen tools.

Works very well
I love my rotary grater. It does what it's supposed to do and I haven't had any issues with it.

Not worth the money
The only grater in the store was the Oxo grater. I made the purchase, brought it home. My wife had a difficult time getting the top to open. I guess the silicon seal had a good grip. Seemed to get easier to open with use.
The Oxo is a large grater. People with smaller hands may have a harder time using it. A nice feature is that the grater can be configured for either left or right handed people.
This grater comes with a cover which works in conjunction with the seal on the handle so one can supposedly store cheese inside, keeping the cheese fresh. Taking a close look at the seal as it sits inside the unit I can see about 1/32 of an inch gap at the front of the seal and gaps at the corners of the seal towards the rear.
On the graters best day it would not be able to keep any cheese fresh. If you want fresh cheese store it in a baggie or some other airtight container.
To get the grater apart there is a tab that has to be pressed so the unit can come apart. Since you are flexing a piece of plastic it is possible that the tab may eventually break.
Does it grate cheese? Hard cheese is all I have tried but I have to say that it does grate cheese, though handle pressure is higher due to the seal than other graters I have used.
I will be looking for another grater, probably a Zyliss but I will keep an open mind. The Oxo Seal and Store will either find it's way to a garage sale or give it to my son when he gets his own apartment.

Saved my knuckles.
I use to have the conventional grater that sliced my knuckles. Then I tried using an oven mitt and that just got messy.
When I got this handheld grater (Although mine looks a little different...same name "OXO Seal and Store Rotary Grater" but has a round compartment). I thought it would be hard to clean because of the reviews, but it came apart easily and I love it!
