Champagne, a wine for everyday? I strongly believe so. I think that every day we have to celebrate, to celebrate life and at Riegel, we have a nice variation of different flutes. If they are handmade, machine-made, stemmed or stemless. Key at Riegel Champagne Flutes is truly that the glass shows aromas at its best. At the same time, it's all about the bubbles. In the real champagne flutes, you will always find something that we call the por mous, or the scratch point, which is a little point - a [inaudible] point on the bottom of the flute that makes the bubble rise, and in particular from the center. Champagne flutes, most of the time, in restaurants, are over-poured, over-filled. At the end, the glass needs to be balanced. The perfect pour amount in a champagne flute should be approximately half the flute because you would like to have the bubbles create the foam. You would like to have enough space in the flute so that you can smell the aromas. At the end, champagne is wine. It's all about the aroma, so when you also swirl in a flute, you want to bring the aromas all the way up to the rim of the glass, so then when we smell, we can capture all of the beautiful aromas. What I like to do with champagne, and this might shock you, is I would like to drink it from grape-specific glasses. And you know, by Riedel, we have for each grape variety, its own glass, its own messenger. Most of the champagnes are based or made out of pinot noir, so why not use the pinot noir glass? Give it a try at home. If it is champagne or sparkling wine from Napa Valley, for example, use your pinot noir glass. What you get here, for the very first time, is all the aromas that champagne can offer. You swirl it like wine in your glass and you smell. Truly, an explosion of aromas in your glass. |
