A viable alternative to a nosing glass
Looking for an alternative to the traditional whisk(e)y nosing glass, I discovered the Villeroy & Boch Islands Whiskey tumblers. They have a lovely 'feel' in the hand compared to the copita or similar nosing glass. While the Glencairn glass is sturdier, I now prefer to use the Islands Whiskey tumblers when sampling new whiskeys.
Other reviewers have claimed the Villeroy & Boch tumblers are at their best when sampling richly flavored older and unpeated whiskies, and, as I prefer my peat in a fireplace and not in my whiskies, I concur.
Because of their larger volumes, these tumblers take a few minutes to build the aromas, but the wait will be worthwhile as they maintain a 'strong nose' over a longer period of time than similar nosing glassware.
These tumblers are a perfect choice for sampling those "special occasion" malts and for serving friends who enjoy nosing their whiskeys.
