Sturdy queen platform bed; getting addl King
I agree with the Dec. 2011 review that mentioned extra holes - how weird is that? Despite some of the holes not lining up/ not the correct amt of holes, etc., it has held up well over the past 6 months. Just plan on a little longer to put together-and this is definitely a 2 person job. You don't need to be a genius, it's just that the second person is needed to hold the joints together.
We are so pleased with the queen platform that we are purchasing a King platform.

Novela Cordovan Platform Bed - King
This bed is comparable to the Modus Newport Platform bed.
Overall, I would recommend this bed. I couldn't find anything comparable in quality and price locally or on the internet. For a simple platform bed, the finish on the wood is beautiful, and the price is certainly very reasonable. Plus, the bed was fairly easy to assemble. (I have more to say about the assembly later in this review.)
There are two reasons why I didn't rate this five stars.
1) The initial bed was damaged during shipping. I think that with better packaging the damage wouldn't have occurred. Note: The bed is packaged and ships directly from the vendor, so BB&B does not package the bed. That said, BB&B handled the return and replacement quickly and without hassle. For that, I give BB&B a big thumbs up! The second bed also had damaged packaging, but the bed was in perfect shape. Based on my experience, I would recommend that you have someone be present to inspect the packaging upon delivery. In case there is major damage, you can either refuse the package or add a notation to the delivery receipt that the package was damaged.
2) To install the slats, it is very helpful to have a power drill because the bed that I received didn't have all of the necessary pilot holes in the slats. If you don't have a power drill, and you are a fanatic about following the directions (like I am), you might find this a part a bit challenging. Arguably, it might not be necessary to anchor all of the slats. In my case, there were four slats without the necessary pilot holes, so they probably didn't really need to be anchored. And, it is possible that other beds might have all of the necessary pilot holes. I don't know.
Bottom line: This is a nice looking bed at a very reasonable price. Just check the packaging when it is delivered.
