Provides light shade - the sun still comes through a little, in a meshy way, but this is nice. I don't think I will get sunburnt under it. The green color is much lighter & brighter than on the website. I thought it would be dark/olive green and blend in with my trees in the backyard. I was looking for a classy-looking product to blend into the environment. It is closer to a neon green. It is also seems smaller outside than I thought. This is no fault of the product and we did measure. The sun just moves a lot in the sky over the day and the shade only shades a small area. For what it does do, it works well.
