We've all given our house keys to others for one reason or another. The engineers at Kwickset have developed a new lock technology that allows homeowners to re-key their doors on their own whenever they have the need. You can even re-key all yours home's locks to work with a single key, eliminating the need for separate keys for each door lock on your home. This new technology, called SmartKey, just requires a simple, three-step process. First, insert and turn the functioning key. Then, insert and remove the provided Learn Tool. Then remove the original key, and after inserting the new key and turning back to center, your SmartKey lock has been re-keyed and is fully functional. That's it.

The process is secure because it requires use of both the home owner's functioning key and the proprietary Learn Tool.

When I leave town, I just change my locks to match the temporary key that I give the neighbor, and then when i come back home, i just re-key the locks back to my home key.

With this new lock technology, SmartKey has replaced the traditional pin and tumbler design with a patented side-bar locking system, and SmartKey's deadbolt had earned the ANSI Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Security rating, and provides Kwikset's exclusive BumpGuard protection to guard against lock-bumping attacks.
