Pros & Cons
After owning a very basic level Shark steam mop for almost 5 years now (which still works well), I decided to upgrade to the “Shark Advanced Steam Pocket Mop/Sonic Agitation” mop ($99.99). I have been wanting an upgraded model for the convenience of the 2-sided mopping/not having to change mop pads so frequently.
Unfortunately I exchanged this model after one use for the “Shark Professional Steam Pocket Mop” ($129.99). Forcing the Advanced/Sonic model to emit steam was nearly impossible; you had to pump it quickly & CONSTANTLY in order to keep a continuous flow of steam (even my old Shark model was better – a pump every few seconds generated heavy steam). Honestly, it was so bad that I think there’s a possibility I may have gotten a defective model, which is why I’m still giving the mop 3 Stars.
Shark Advanced Steam Pocket Mop/Sonic Agitation ($99.99):
PROs:
1) The vibrating “Sonic Agitation” feature was amazing – it really scrubbed off dried-on, TOUGH to remove messes (such as kitty vomit) without any effort on my part
2) The double-sided pads with this mop were great – one side is the traditional cotton-loop pad, the other side is the Sonic Scrub pad (although you can buy these mop pads separately to go with any model, so I now own them for my upgraded model)
3) Double-sided steam heads are so much more convenient than other one-sided steam mops
4) Larger water reservoir than older models, reduces the frequency of having to stop to refill the tank
CONs:
1) The pump-action steam was absolutely terrible – I literally increased my muscle mass after pumping this thing for an hour to mop half of my house; Again, I may have gotten a defective model because it was unbelievable how much pumping was required…
2) Left my floors too wet in the areas where the steam was finally flowing
Since I exchanged the “Advanced” model for the “Professional” model, I want to also include my review for that one here…
Shark Professional Steam Pocket Mop ($129.99):
PROs:
1) This model REQUIRES NO PUMPING! It’s the first model I’ve owned where I didn’t need to pump the handle for steam… and I will never, ever go back to a pump model – the steady stream of automatic steam is so convenient
2) Largest water reservoir of any mop I’ve ever used (larger than the Advanced/Sonic model)
3) The 3 steam settings (Dust, Mop, Scrub) are convenient and I will continue to use all 3 depending on the level of cleaning I need
4) Even on the highest setting (Scrub), the mop did not leave the floors overly wet
5) Double-sided steam heads are so much more convenient than other one-sided steam mops
CONs:
1) I really wish this model had the “Sonic Agitation” feature, as it was GREAT! I will upgrade again if they make a “Professional”/automatic steam model that includes the Sonic scrubber
2) The double-sided pads with this mop have only the traditional cotton-loop on both sides; I found it really helpful to have the pads with the Sonic Scrub pad on the one side (Again: you can buy these mop pads separately to go with any model, so this is not a huge deal)
Overall, I have loved my Sonic steam mops over the years and will never go back to traditional mopping after using these!
