Does the Job
This candy thermometer is heavy duty. I actually purchased this one at the store so I was able to inspect it thoroughly before purchasing. It has a clip on the back so you can attach it to the side of a pot (but it has to be a tall pot). The handle is insulated, possibly silicone, and remains cool to the touch when left in a sugar syrup on the stove. The "paddle style" makes it easy to read when left in a sauce pan. I haven't calibrated it yet, but it performed well in my first batch of sugar.

thermometer
Used this type thermometer many years ago when I first learning to cook 1950's. I'm old and experienced. When I saw this on your website I was thilled to find it again instead of those delicate glass ones. I purchased one---mercury was separated---Customer service very polite--sent me another one and the mercury too was separated. Now I have two thermometers and can't use either one of them. I was so disappointed--didn't bother customer service with my problem again. Loved them. They were sturdy and readable which was a plus I was looking for. Order at your own risk is my suggestion. Sorry-------
