"Professional" in name only
That is the best description that I found on another blog. I do not bake every day, but do a lot when the holidays roll around. The first time I burned my KA out, the "Authorized Factory Repair Center" (AFRC) informed me that "this is not the same machine since Whirlpool took them over in 1986." When it burned out again nine months later, the same AFRC informed me that they had received a memo from KA telling them that the fusible link they changed the first time was of inferior quality and had been replaced by one made in the USA and was much stronger. However, I still had to pay for the repair - again. This Thanksgiving it burned out again. I assure you, I have worked in a professional kitchen with my father who was a chef and take pride in how I take care of my equipment, so it has never been abused! (The AFRC even commented the first time how it looked like a new machine). I was making a version the THEIR recipe for mashed potatoes, but mine calls for more liquid. Because of its history, I first mashed them by hand and then put them in the mixer to get out the smaller lumps, but it still burned out. I then learned that KA does NOT support any repairs made by their AFRC - only work done by them in Ohio. A supervisor did offer to send me the Shipping Kit for free for their factory to look at it. All it needed was, well - everything! A complete re-build for a cost of 193.00. Nobody at KA could explain why my little, 25+ year old, hand-held Farberware beater could finish the job that killed their "Professional" machine. I also learned that KA makes TWO different lines: a residential/professional one and a commercial one. If you do a lot of baking and want a reliable mixer, I suggest you go for the 7 Qt. Commercial NSF rated model. I found one for about three dollars LESS than the 549.00 cost of the Residential one. If you don't need that strong of a mixer, you can save a lot by buying a less expensive machine than the KA. You are paying for a name that is not the same product that was made by Hobart.

Love this Mixer!
I have this mixer and mix large batches of Cookie Dough every week to take to bake at our Open Houses. Also do a massive amount of baking for holiday gifts. It is a work horse and has been a lifesaver! Bought one for my son that is a Pastry Chef in SF for a 2-Star Michellin rated restaurant. He took it to the restaurant and they are using it in their daily bread & dessert making. It has been going strong for him & his other chefs for the past 3 years(although they have overheated it a few times-but that's being used in a commercial operation!) still it has worked super! He's very happy with his too!

Best purchase ever
I received my Kitchen Aid Mixer as a gift 29 years ago. The best appliance in my home and is the most reliable one. I have never had one problem ever, wait I am lying.... The little button/ screw on the front/ top of the mixer every now and then, maybe once a year, pops off. It simply comes loose, probably from over use. I can not say one bad word and absolutely love it. I do not understand these people writing bad reviews. Perhaps they are rough and caused a problem. This product is so well constructed only the consumer could cause a problem with this mixer by abusing it. There are far more positive reviews than negative one and also some people just love to complain and hear themselves. The Kitchen Aid Mixer is a wonderful product.... Don't let a few sour apples turn you away.

Awesome Investment
I owned a smaller model of the bowl lift design by Kitchenaid for about 20 years and it was fantastic. I ordered the larger 6qt design due to some of my recipes are not only larger in quantity, but I needed a heavier motor for mixing. I've had this Professional 600 series for a couple of years now, and I love it! My daughter even insists on this mixer when she gets married!
