New Metal Pedal
Just bought this, so cannot give long-term review yet (thus the 3 rating) - but this model has a steel metal pedal system, so it should not have the "broken pedal" problems that other reviewers have reported. We have an older smaller Simple Human step can that had that problem - the plastic pedal broke. This should prevent it. Also note the 10 year warranty, and save your receipt so you can return it.

Plastic Foot pedal
Mine broke also after 3 yrs. Stuck with a large box of bags to use up before I replace it with another brand thats not made out of plastic

Great!
Beautiful, sleek, everything it is advertised to be! Have had this trash can for a few months and the lid motion is great, no problems with the foot pedal which is soooo nice. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because we found that it dents pretty easily. We have a very active dog in a not so big apartment and there are a few dents where it has been hit by toys. But all we have to do is turn it a different way and you cant see them :)

Foot pedal continues to break
This is the third time I've purchased this trash can and I'm so annoyed. I love the look and the soft open/close of this can. That's the reason I've continued to buy it even though WITHOUT FAIL it has broken like clockwork after about a year. I'm so sick of it that I've decided not to buy any other products from this brand. I don't know how others have managed not to have their foot pedal broken. I'm not stomping on it or anything. Literally after normal use it just breaks. I've been opening and closing the lid with my hands now. Ugh.
