Wouldn't recommend it
It's a sleek and smart looking kettle alright and it does heat up water pretty darn fast, but just like others have mentioned, it did have a weird smell! The water had a slightly funky flavor but wasn't terribly noticeable once the tea was brewed in my cup. I used it for a year and was reasonably happy with it until it just stopped working one day. So, I'm back to a whistling kettle I heat up on my stove, and don't really miss the electric kettle a bit.

I absolutely love this glass water kettle. I use it constantly for tea or just when hot water is needed. It heats up super fast. Great item.

Honesty
I just wanted to say that I saw this product in a store that buys returned items that supposedly still work. This store had hundreds of these kettles lined up in rows. They looked so pretty that I was tempted to buy one for $3.00!!! I asked myself, "why are there so many of these particular kettles here?" Then I came here to find out more about the product and now I see the honesty of the reviews. I'm so happy that I bought the Procter Silex Kettle! I love it, no bad taste or smell, it's sturdy and handsome AND it turns off by itself just like the Capresso Kettle! What do you know! Thank you all for your honest review! I've been spared the misery of dealing with a poor quality product. Sigh of relief!

Water tasted terrible
I am an avid tea drinker. I bought this unit because it was prices well and I liked the small shape and glass kettle. It keeps your counter from looking so busy. BUT the water tasted terrible, like plastic. We've tried everything... scrubbing it, cleaning in with baking soda, boiling vinegar. Still the water tastes awful! Not worth it - spend the extra money and buy a better model!
