Caring for Your Diamond Ring

Here are some care and handling tips for keeping your treasured ring as sparkling as the day he slipped on your finger. |

While diamonds are the hardest substance known to man, a diamond can scratch another diamond, so never store all your jewelry together. |

Keep your ring in its own special space in your jewelry box. If you’re sentimental, store it in its original box. |

Buy ring trees to keep near every sink in your house so you’ll have a safe place to store your ring while washing your hands. |

Remove all jewelry before engaging in sports, housework or yard work where jewelry is prone to impacts and/or exposure to chemicals. |

You can also use liquid jewelry cleaner (available at your jeweler); just follow the instructions on the label. |

Ammonia-based cleaners or mild solvents are fine, but never use on a stone with fractures. Soak your ring in a half-and-half solution of ammonia and cold water for thirty minutes. Lift out and gently tap around the front and back of the mounting with a small soft brush. Swish in the solution a second time, rinse and drain on tissue paper. |
