WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN AUDIO MONITOR AND A VIDEO MONITOR?
An Audio Monitor provides parents with the ability to hear sounds that baby is making, while a Video Monitor allows parents to hear and see baby. Both styles operate remotely. The audio style uses radio frequency bands from its base and the video style uses both audio and a small camera. Bases are kept in the room with baby and parents keep a small receiver with them.
WHICH TYPE OF MONITOR WILL PROVIDE THE LEAST INTERFERENCE?
Digital Monitors will provide the least amount of interference because they don't depend on common frequency bands used by household items like cordless phones and microwaves. Digital Monitors use an encoded signal to transmit sounds to the parent receiver. If you live in a close knit community or apartment building you should consider a better digital monitor or at least an audio monitor with multiple channels, to avoid interference from your neighbors.
WHICH TYPE OF MONITOR WILL PROVIDE THE LONGEST RANGE?
Going out into the backyard while baby takes a nap? Be sure to check monitor signal range to ensure you can hear them when they call no matter where you are. Some Digital models can travel a range of 2000ft, though this seems a bit far to be from baby. Some Video monitors can go up to approximately 600ft. Be sure to check each model as their signal range does vary. Note that some models have an Out of Range Signal alerting you if you are going too far from the transmitter (and baby).
DOES IT MATTER IF MY CORDLESS PHONE HAS THE SAME MEGAHERTZ AS MY MONITOR?
As with all Audio Monitors, their interference is caused by household items that use the same frequency bands. This includes cell phones, cordless phones, microwaves and other common household items. This also means that if your neighbor has a cordless phone and they are close enough, they can cause interference on your Audio Monitor as well. To prevent interference almost completely, select a Digital Monitor. They will also provide a longer range too.
