Proper storage is the most important element in preserving your cutlery. As mentioned, the ideal storage is a wooden block. Most sets come with a knife block, but they can also be purchased separately.

Other methods of storage are flat in a drawer and hanging on a magnetic strip. Both are fine, as long as the knives don't hit each other, which can cause nicks and dullness.

MAINTAINING THE BLADE: Maintain the original edge of your knives using a sharpening steel. If done consistently, your knives will last much longer. Gourmet quality knives will have a matching sharpening steel. This is a simple and easy method to maintaining the blade on your knife.

SHARPENING: A good quality sharpener should be used to restore your fine edge cutlery as needed.

CLEANING: You should always hand wash and dry your cutlery immediately. This will help to preserve the life of your knives.
