common questions
  shop for cutlery product guide

Can you mix and match sharpeners?

This is not recommended as the manufacturer provides the appropriate hardness of a sharpener specific for their knives. In most cases, better cutlery should not be sharpened with an electric knife sharpener unless specified as a sharpener of choice by that manufacturer.

Can you put it in the dishwasher?

Again, this is not recommended. Knives can knock against other items causing nicks in the blades.

Do all knives need sharpening?

All straight edge knives need sharpening, but knives with serrated edges do not. Remember, a dull knife can be more dangerous than a sharp one.

If I can't afford a complete set, do you recommend one knife to start my collection?

The 8" Chefs knife is perfect for multiple tasks and is arguably the most popular knife in the kitchen.

Which cutting board material is best for my knives?

A wooden cutting board will always be the best surface to cut on. Very hard surfaces such as glass, metal, and even laminates such as Formica can cause a knife blade to dull. If wood is not your cutting board material of choice, a Polypropylene board (usually white) would be an excellent alternative, and it will be good on your knives.
