What's the difference between a humidifier and a dehumidifier?
A humidifier is used to add moisture to a room. A dehumidifier is used to pull moisture out of the air.
Can I use a cool mist model as a vaporizer?
No, it doesn't produce steam like the warm mist and thus can not vaporize.
I can't be bothered taking care of one other thing, so which unit is the easiest to use?
Unless you are looking to use the machine for the dispersing of vaporizing medicine, the cool mist is a good choice because it requires the least amount of maintenance.
How can I be sure I'm choosing the right humidifier for the right room?
Be sure that you check the output capacity of the reservoir. The smallest capacity (around 1.4 gal/24h) will fill a room of about 430 square feet. The larger capacity (around 3 gal/24h) will fill a room of about 700 square feet. Still, always check individual product information because even these ratios will vary depending on the manufacturer.
How do I know how much humidity is right?
The best way to know is with a hygrometer, which measures the humidity levels in your home. A healthy humidity level is between 35 and 45 percent. Over 50 percent humidity can cause bacteria, dust mites and mold spores to grow. If you don't have a hygrometer, a sign that there is too much humidity in your home would be the evidence of mold or condensation and steam dripping on the inside of your windows.
How can I tell if I need a humidifier?
If you suffer from chapped lips, dry skin, sinus problems or a dry cough, you would probably benefit from the use of a humidifier. A house that is too dry will also cause static electricity to form, and also dry out wooden furniture.
How long will a 2 or 3 gallon humidifier run before refilling?
Usually 12 - 16 hours depending whether you run on low or high operation. A good rule of thumb is to fill it every night or morning to ensure continuous operation.
