Cleaning your lamp depends on what it is made of. Some lamps can be wiped clean with a cloth, while others may need a specific cleaner. As for cleaning lampshades that's easy; just vacuum with the dust brush and low suction.
Also, always keep a bulb in a socket; a lamp plugged in with no bulb in the socket is a shock risk. When replacing a bulb, unplug or turn off the lamp to replace a bulb, and let the old bulb cool off before replacing with a new one. And last but not least, take care never to place anything on top of the lamp or bulb.
