common questions
shop for crib mattresses product guide

Which is better - Innerspring or Foam?

Both are fine. Innerspring mattresses tend to last longer, while foam mattresses tend to be lighter making sheet changes easier. Just keep in mind when shopping for a mattress for an infant, the firmer, the better. Having a firm mattress reduces the risk of SIDS and helps support baby's growing bones.

Do I need to buy another mattress when my baby is a toddler?

No, a toddler will be perfectly fine sleeping on a firm mattress. If you prefer your toddler to sleep on a less firm mattress, there are dual firm mattresses which are extra firm on one side for infants and less firm on the other for toddlers.

Will any of these mattresses fit my crib?

All mattresses today are made to fit the standard crib size measuring 51 5/8 by 27 1/4. If you are replacing a mattress for an older crib, the crib should be measured. The mattress should fit snugly in the crib with no more than two adult fingers fitting between the crib and mattress.

What are the holes in the side of the mattress?

They are vents that allow air to flow through keeping the mattress fresh. They also allow the mattress to breath reducing stress on the seams should your baby jump or bounce on the mattress. The more vents the better.

Why would I need a mattress pad if the mattress is water resistant?

A mattress pad makes nighttime changes easier. When placed right underneath the crib sheet it can easily be replaced with a new one without having to wipe down the entire mattress. It is a good rule of thumb to have at least two. Two will let you keep one on the mattress, and another as a backup.
