Pricier frames come loaded with more technology, providing a greater array of features. Here are some of the features to consider.
FRAME SIZE: Digital frames come in a wide range of sizes from 3 1/2" up to 15". Decide on the location you want to display the frame, and then pick the appropriate size frame.
FILE FORMAT: If you wish to store as many images as possible, save your photos as .jpg (JPEG) files. A JPEG file is the most standard method of photo image compression (most digital cameras offer that file mode). While some data may be lost during image compression, computers and digital frames easily read JPEG files.
MEMORY STORAGE: The more internal memory the frame contains, the greater the number of images you can store. In general, internal memory size ranges from 256 megabytes (MB) to 2 gigabytes (GB). Based on an average JPEG photo size of 256K, with frames using compression software, the number of images you can store range from:

Note: If your pictures are bigger than 256K, the storage capacity will be reduced.
Many digital frames have a slot to insert your digital camera's memory card. Check the type of memory card your digital camera has and make sure the digital frame accepts that format (e.g. SD, XD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, Compact Flash, MMC formats, or USB cable connections). Some frames also support the following video formats - AVI, M-JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and M-PEG-4.
SCREEN RESOLUTION: Screen resolutions vary too, from 320 x 240 to 1024 x 768 (HI DEF), and increase regularly as technology improves. Higher resolution provides sharper details and more vibrant colors.
ASPECT RATIO: This term is the horizontal to vertical picture size. A 4:3 aspect ratio means the image size in your camera will be exactly replicated in the frame with out you having to manipulate the image. A 16:9 aspect ratio is a wide screen view and requires image manipulation to fit the LCD wide screen size. Look for a frame that allows you to enlarge and crop an image versus stretching the image to avoid image distortion.
BASIC FEATURES: Should include rotating images (like a slide show), battery powered operation (some are rechargeable), an AC adapter, and interchangeable frames to match different decors.
Additional features you may be interested in are: MP3 music compatibility with internal speakers, slide show viewing option, slide motion control (page turning effect by finger touch), video or touch screen capability and a remote control.
