Do I need to purchase a hand mixer if I have a stand mixer?
Some stand mixers can be used as hand mixers, with the head detaching from the base for the easy mixing of fewer ingredients. Heavier duty models will not have this, but can perform all the same tasks and much more than a hand mixer. You probably want both. Hand mixers are better suited for small, quick tasks such as mixing ingredients in a box of cake mix.
Can I substitute bowls?
Purchasing an extra work bowl is a great idea. Since the stand mixer can be used for multiple tasks in the kitchen - buy an extra bowl to swap out so you can do more than one job at a time without having to use the same bowl and get some covers too! But don't forget to rinse off your attachments. You wouldn't want your lemon meringue to get in your whipped cream.
Can these bowls go directly into the refrigerator or oven?
It's fine to place them in the refrigerator, but they are not meant to go into the oven.
