Why are some strollers so expensive?
Better model strollers will provide a host of added features and conveniences that you will enjoy immediately. Lightweight frames, larger wheels, excellent maneuverability for ease of use over curbs and busy streets, adjustability for baby's comfort and yours. And let's not forget adjustable suspension and shock absorbers. It's a lot to consider for your little bundle of joy. These more expensive models will have any combination of these features and more. Give one a test drive when you're shopping. You will appreciate the difference.
What is an umbrella stroller and can I use one for my newborn?
An Umbrella Stroller is a lightweight, compact stroller that is used for quick trips and travel. It can fold and be stored easily. Usually an Umbrella Stroller is your second stroller. It will not be as comfortable as a larger, more full-sized model, but will certainly do the trick for a quick trip to the market. Umbrella strollers should be used for children that are 6 months or older. Your baby will need full head and neck control before using this style.
How long will I have to use a stroller?
Keeping tabs on your toddler in a busy shopping mall is certainly easier and safer with them buckled in the stroller, rather than running ahead of you. Technically strollers are for newborns to toddler age. With that said, most manufacturers consider toddler age to be approximately 40lbs or 4 years old. All children are different, and you may find your child staying in longer (or shorter). There are Joggers that accommodate up to 50lbs or 5 years in age. Once you select your stroller, be sure to check the manufacturer's recommendations for weight and age to ensure the safest choice.
Do any of the strollers double as a car seat?
Yes. There are a few models that work in conjunction with a car seat. These are primarily for Infant Stage babies and include an Infant Car Seat Carrier which allows you to place the car seat into this simple stroller frame, a Travel System that comes with the Infant Car Seat, Base and Stroller all in one and lastly, many Strollers are compatible with Infant Carriers. This feature may be referred to as a Universal Car Seat Carrier. Be sure to check each model for specifics. One of the best perks for any of the above mentioned models is they eliminate the need to wake your sleeping baby to take them from the car seat to the stroller... just lift the car seat from the base and snap it into the stroller.
How old should baby be before I use my jogger to run with them?
The recommended age to jog with baby is 6 months. Although some Joggers say they can be used from birth to toddler years, your baby should have full head and neck support before the stroller is used for jogging. Those models that indicate they can accommodate newborns, do not intend that use for jogging until baby is the appropriate age. Since many Joggers function also as a great stroller, and some may even be infant car seat compatible, feel free to walk baby for the first 6 months, then you can take off running.
Why do some joggers have a front wheel that swivels while others do not?
When you are using your Jogger to run with baby, you always want the front wheel to be locked in place and not swivel. This provides the maximum amount of control and safety for both you and baby. The front locked wheel does not provide maneuverability. By unlocking the front wheel, your Jogger can function beautifully as a stroller; able to maneuver through busy streets and uneven terrain. Not all Joggers have front wheels that unlock, models may vary.
