Once you’ve selected your gemstone jewelry, it’s important to treat it with appropriate care. With the proper care, your fine jewelry will last a lifetime.- Clean your gemstones by washing them in warm water with a mild detergent. Feel free to use a toothbrush to remove residue and build up. Rinse completely in warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth.
- Watch out for chemicals! A gemstone’s surface is delicate and harsh chemicals can lead to the loss of luster, as well as coat the surface in a dull film. Among the things to avoid are:
- Cosmetics and perfumes: Perfumes, skin creams, hair sprays and other cosmetics can all damage a pearl. Put on your gemstones as the last part of getting ready, and avoid putting any perfume on the skin that will touch your gemstones.
- Chlorine and cleaning products: Don’t wear gemstones in the pool, or when you’re doing the dishes or using other cleaning products.
