  shop for humidifiers product guide

Some ultrasonic models have a cartridge that keeps minerals in water from being dispersed into the air as a white powdery dust. A mineral absorption pad is available for some models, which helps prevent build-up inside of the unit, making maintenance easier.

Cool mist models require replacing the filter or wick every three months or so. This prevents the mineral deposits and bacteria that have built up in the filter from being returned to the air.

Warm mist models do not require filters; rather a solution is necessary to clean the heating elements. Warm mist humidifiers may require more frequent cleaning due to warm water that can encourage bacteria growth in the unit.

Airwasher models also do not require filters. Instead, they use washable disks that are very easy to clean and re-use. A water-additive can be used in airwashers to improve the airwasher's performance and keep mineral deposits from forming.

The only other care required of all humidifier types is that you maintain the appropriate water level. Unlike your plants, you must do this regularly. Many models now have a refill light that will illuminate when more water is needed in the reservoir. Some models even have an auto shut-off feature that will signal when the reservoir is empty by automatically powering down the unit. This also prevents white dust from circulating in the room when the unit runs dry.
