Today I am going to show you how to make a fresh and healthy yoghurt using the Euro Cuisine YM260 2-quart Yoghurt Maker including this unit individual cup, thermometer and cup and bag to make Greek yoghurt. Are you ready for a fresh start? Let’s make some yoghurt. All you need are two simple ingredients.
First ingredient: 5 ounces of plain yoghurt at room temperature or a -10-gram-packet of yoghurt culture and 2-quart of milk. 64 ounces. You can use any type of milk: whole, skim or low fat, pasteurized or raw. You can also use: almond milk, soy milk, or even goat’s milk!
Preparing ice bath in your kitchen sink: no more than a few inches of cold water and ice cubes. Remove the white lid from a 2-quart container in your Euro Cuisine® Yogurt Maker.
Pour your milk into a saucepan and place the thermometer on the side of your saucepan. Hit the milk and whisk frequently to avoid charring. When the milk starts to bubble or reach 180 degrees Fahrenheit it is ready. Place the saucepan into the ice bath and cool it to 100 ? F. That’s about the same temperature one would feel comfortable feeding this milk to a baby. Remove one cup of the milk from the saucepan and pour the rest in a pitcher. Stir in the yoghurt or yoghurt culture with one cup of the warm milk. Today I am using all natural yoghurt as my starter. Now, it might seem strange that you have to buy yoghurt to make yoghurt but what we’re doing here is introducing good probiotic bacteria to the milk.
These bacteria thrive in heat. This is exactly what your yoghurt maker is going to provide. So, now all you need to do is take your mixture pour it in the warm milk that is already in your pitcher and then just stir. Next, pour the mixture into the ¾ container in the yoghurt maker. The YM260 has two lids. First, place the white lid over the 2-quart container. Next, place the clear cover over the yoghurt maker. Check the handy time reminder printed on the side of the machine. I am going to cook this batch for 8 hours. So, I am going to align my indicator on the clear cover with the time I expect it to be finished. This will remind me at what time I should turn it off. It is 1 pm so, I am going to add 8 hours and align my indicator with the number 9. I like to cook mine overnight.
But sometimes it cooks while I am at work. Plug in the Yoghurt Maker to begin the cooking and that’s it. You are done! 8 hours later simply unplug the unit and remove the clear cover. Remove the yoghurt container from the machine and place it in the refrigerator cool it down for about 3 hours. You can enjoy plain yoghurt or you can add your favorite cereal. I like to stir in seasonal fruits and spices. I think it’s a great way to have flavors throughout the year and, my kids love to experiment. Creating yoghurt really is a great family activity. If you want to make thicker Greek yoghurt take a freshly cooked mixture and strain it to the provided cheese cloth to separate the whey from the yoghurt. The whey is the liquid that runs through the cheese cloth. The thicker yoghurt that remains is the Greek yoghurt. You can eat it as it is, top it on a gyro or you can use it to make specialties like tzatziki. We hope you enjoyed this video.
