To fill the water tank, open the outer left lid and remove the inner lid. Fill the water tank with cool, fresh drinking water up to the max line. Place the tank back into the machine. Replace the inner lid and close the outer door.
To fill the bean hopper, open the outer right lid and remove the inner lid. Fill the bean hopper with fresh, whole espresso beans. Replace the inner lid and close the outer lid.
Attach the power cord into the socket located on the back of the machine and plug the other end into a power outlet. Press the power switch on the back of the machine to turn the machine on.
Then press the standby button located on the front of the machine. On the initial setup you will need to select your prefered language. Use the arrow keys to the right of the display to select the desired language then press OK to save your selection. The machine will warm up and peformed an automatic rinsing cycle into the drip tray. Once completed your machine is ready for use.
To brew an espresso using whole beans, simply place a cup onto the drip tray and adjust the dispensing head. Adjust the amount of coffee ground by pressing the aroma button. Choose from mild, medium or strong. Press the espress or espresso longo icon to brew espesso. Press the button once for one cup and twice for two cups. To customize the amount of water used in each cup, hold down the brew button for three seconds. When the preferred amound of espresso has been brewed, press the stop coffee icon. The machine will automatically program that exact amount for that particular beverage icon.
To brew pre-ground espresso, simply place a cup onto the drip tray and adjust the dispensing head. Press the aroma button until the pre-ground function is selection. Open the pre-ground bypass dosser lid and pour in one level scoop of pre-ground espresso. Close the lid. Press the espresso brew button to brew espresso. Press OK to confirm that the pre-ground coffee has been added. When using the pre-ground bypass dosser you may only brew one cup at a time.
To dispense hot water for tea or hot chocolate, place a cup under the hot water wand. Press the hot water icon on the control panel. When the desired amount of water is dispensed into the cup, press the stop hot water icon.
The Xelsis includes a large milk caraffe that automatically froths and steams milk for cappuchinos, lates or any milk based beverage. To install the milk caraffe, first remove the protective cover from the front of the machine. Place the cover in the seat located in the water tank for safe keeping.
Remove the lid of the milk caraffe by rotating the handle clockwise, pressing the buttons on the side of the lid and pulling straight up. Fill the milk caraffe with fresh, cold milk above the minimum line. Be sure to not exceed the maximum line. Replace the lid firmly onto the caraffe and return the handle to the home position. Angle the caraffe slightly downwards to insert onto the front of the machine. Once the handle is firmly in place, push the caraffe downwards. You will hear a beep once the caraffe is locked into place on the drip tray.
To brew a cappuchino, place a cup onto the drip tray next to the milk caraffe and adjust the dispensing tray. Adjust the amount of coffee ground by pressing the aroma button. Choose from mild, medium or strong. Press the cappuchino, late macchiato or cafe late icon. Rotate the caraffe handle over the cup. The machine will froth milk automatically and dispense into the cup. Then it will brew fresh espresso intot he cup. You may stop frothing or brewing at any time by pressing the stop milk icon or the stop coffee icon as they appear on the screen. To customize the amount of frothed milk and espresso used in each cup, hold down the brew button for three seconds. After the milk dispensing begins, press the stop milk icon when the preferred amount of milk has been frothed. Then press the stop coffee icon when the preferred amount of espresso has been brewed. The machine will automatically program those exact amounts for that particular beverage icon. When you are finished brewing your beverage, return the caraffe handle back to the home position. The machine will automatically perform a rinsing cycle to clean the caraffe. You can then put the milk caraffe into the refrigerator or discard the milk remaining in the caraffe.
The Xelsis Digital ID allows for programming of up to six unique user profiles, each profile and then customize every beverage icon to their unique preference. To create a new user profile, press the user menu icon, scroll to create new user and press OK. Then select the icon that you would like to be associated with that particular profile and press OK. Besides the unique icon, you can add your name - up to six characters. To do this, simply enter the edit name menu and use the arrow buttons to scroll to each letter. Press the OK button to confirm letters. Scroll to the save icon and press OK to save the name. Then press escape to exit. For even further customization you can scan your fingerprints to activate your user profile with just one touch. From the user edit menu, scroll down to user enable and press OK. The display screen will walk you through scanning your unique fingerprint using the digital fingerprint sensor on the top of the machine. You will need to place and remove your fingerprint three times to get an accurate reading. The machine will confirm that the fingerprint has been saved. Press escape to return to the main menu. You will see the name for the profile you just created displayed. Now every beverage customized will be programmed for that profile. To change user profiles at any time, simply press select user until the preferred name appears, or just touch the digital sensor with your finger.
The Xelsis can program numerous settings for each beverage icon on the display screen as well as for each beverage customized through a user profile. To adjust or program these settings, press the beverage menu item on the display screen. Here you will see all the different beverages that can be customized for each profile. Use the arrow buttons on the right to scroll up and down to the beverage of your choice. Then, press the OK button to select. For each beverage you can program the amount of coffee ground, the pre-brewing function, the coffee temperature, the lake of the coffee and the lake and type of milk frothed for milk based beverages. You can also restore factory settings for that beverage in this menu. For a detailed discription of each setting of the beverage menu, please read the instruction manual. Overall machine settings can also be programmed on the Xelsis. Press the settings menu icon on the control panel to access these functions. Here you can adjust and program things such as the cup warmer, acoustic alarms, language, display contrast, timer settings, cleaning cycles and much more. Please read the instruction manual for a full discription of each setting.
The Intenza water filter is a separate accessory that improves the quality of water used. Before installing, remove the small white filter from the water tank. Adjust the Intenza aroma system according to your water hardness. Use A for soft water, B for medium or standard water and C for hard water. Insert the filter into the empty water tank so that the reference mark matches the groove. Push down firmly to insert completely. Fill the water tank with fresh drinking water and reinsert into the machine. Place a container under the hot water wand. To rinse and activate the filter, press the settings menu icon on the control panel and scroll to water settings. Then choose activate filter. Press OK to confirm the selection and press OK again to confirm the introduction of the new filter. Press OK once more to begin rinsing. When this cycle is complete the filter is installed and the machine is ready for use.
Descaling is an important step to maintaining the water lines of your machine and should be done every two to three months or when indicated by the machine. Saeco Descaling Solution is recommended. To descale your machine, first make sure that the water filed, if inserted, is removed from the water tank. Also be sure that the SBS dial is turned all the way to the left. To access the descaling cycle, press settings menu and select maintenance settings. Then choose descaling cycle and press OK to begin. The machine will now prompt you through each step of the descaling cycle. Desolve one packet of Saeco Descaling Solution into a full tank of water and insert the water tank into the machine. Be sure to empty the drip tray under the brew group. Fill the milk caraffe halfway with water and insert onto the machine. Rotate the handle of the caraffe into position. Place a large container onto the drip tray beneath the dispensing head milk caraffe spout and hot water want. The machine will begin dispensing the solution through the hot water wand and milk caraffe spout at regular intervals until the water tank is empty. If you need to empty the container during the process, press pause on the display screen then press start when the empty container is replaced. After the descaling is complete, the control panel will indicate that the water tank needs to be rinsed. Rinse the water tank thoroughly and refil it with fresh water. Replace back into the machine. Empty the drip tray under the brew group and refill the milk caraffe with fresh water. Place an empty container back onto the drip tray. The control panel will show the progress of the rinsing cycle. When complete the machine is ready for use.
To ensure the freshest tasting cappuchino and late at all times, it is important to clean and maintain the milk caraffe regularly. Besides the automatic rinsing cycle performed after each milk based beverage is brewed, there are thorough cleaning procedures that should be done regularly. Each week you should manually rinse the caraffe more thoroughly. Rotate the handle clockwise and remove the lid from the caraffe. Rotate teh handle back to the home position and remove the connector. Pull the handle with the suction hose straight up and remove the suction hose. Remove the external and internal fitting from the handle. You can now rinse all components under running water. Reassemble all the components of the milk caraffe. You can also reference the quick guide located in the service door for instructions on how to reassemble the caraffe. You will also need to wash the milk circuits inside the machine on a monthly basis. We recommend using Saeco Milk Cleaning Powder. To access the caraffe washing cycle, press the settings menu icon on the control panel and scroll to maintenance settings. Then select caraffe wash cycle. Press OK to begin the cycle. The display screen will prompt you through each step. Be sure that the water tank is filled with fresh drinking water. Remove the lid of the caraffe and fill the caraffe with water up to the max line. Add in one packet of Saeco Milk Cleaning Powder and replace the lid. Insert the handle onto the machine and rotate the handle into position. Place a large container onto the drip tray beneath the dispensing head and milk caraffe spout. The machine will begin dispensing the solution through the milk caraffe spout at regular intervals until the caraffe is empty. After washing cycle is complete, the control panel will indicate that the water tank needs to be rinsed. Refill the water tank and rinse and refill the milk caraffe. Replace both back into the machine. Place an empty container back onto the drip tray. The control panel will show the progress of the rinsing cycle. When complete the machine is readyf or use.
To fully maintain your machine, follow these steps regularly: wipe the outside of the machine with a soft cloth. Empty and rinse teh drip tray daily. Empty the used grounds container and rinse weekly or as indicated by the machine. Remove and rinse the brew group weekly.
