The Scarf Valance
The most versatile window treatment is a scarf valance. Although there are some standard methods to hanging a scarf valance, you can get creative and develop your own look. Here are some ways to hang a scarf valance:

Tips on Scarf Valances
Scarf valances are generally sold in 6 yard (216”) lengths, which is the most common size, or 8 yard (288”) lengths, and can be hung using a sconce, swag holder or even a decorative rod. They look beautiful as a top treatment in conjunction with panels, sheers, blinds or shades, or even alone.

The Blouson Valance
A blouson valance can be hung 2 ways – either stuffed (usually with tissue paper) for a balloon (or blouson) look, or tailored (not stuffed and straight):

Tips on Valances
Most blouson valances are made with a 2 ½” wide pocket. The pocket is the portion of the window treatment through which the rod is threaded. A Dauphine rod is used to hang this treatment. Dauphine rods come in a variety of widths and adjustable projections so you may combine them with other treatments. These rods work on various sized windows. To achieve a full look with valances, hang two valances per typical width window (36” to 42” wide).
