how to choose
shop for window treatments product guide

The Options are Endless

Fabric type and texture should be an important part of your decision in selecting your window treatments. Throw a combination of treatments together to complete a full look for your window. Here are some key points to consider:

  • The lighter the fabric the more flowing and billowy the look and feel of the treatment. Treatments, such as sheer panels, allow light to filter into the room for a warm, sunny feel. Keep in mind the lighter the fabric, the more panels will be needed to achieve a full effect.
  • Draperies in heavier fabrics like velvet can add a distinctive, elegant look to any window. Choose a length that suits your taste. More formal looks are achieved with longer treatments. Longer drapery panels can be “puddled” on the floor for a unique effect.
  • Select two to four times the amount of fabric to the width of the window. This will provide the appropriate fullness to ensure enough fabric for overlapping and to create a complete look.
  • You may select a combination of fabrics and more than one style treatment to complete your window. Sheers can lighten up the heaviness of velvet drapes, and adding a scarf valance over your tab top panels will finish off the look.

  • Window Treatments can look formal or casual – it’s all in how you hang it. Below you can see two window treatments hung quite differently, creating a casual look in one and a more formal look in the other:
