Story Behind the Art:
This Kilim design originates from Mimana, an area suspected to have been settled in Paleolithic times due to the numerous cave dwellings discovered there. For ages this remote area has been a trading center, significantly contributing to the business of the great silk routes. Kilims are known as 'pile-less' rugs; the design is also known as 'slitweave.' These beautiful designs are achieved by interweaving the various colors of the vertical and horizontal strands of the rug. It can be used as a hanging piece or as a floor covering. Master Worldstock weavers in India have managed to replicate this pattern, using the same traditional techniques as their Iranian counterparts. This particular rug was made by Mahmood and his family. They do the entire process of shearing, washing, and dyeing of the wool and weaving of the rugs within their own compound.
What is Worldstock?
The handcrafted touch of artisan skill creates variations in color, size and design. If buying two of the same item, slight differences should be expected.
Imported
Tip: We recommend the use of a non-skid pad to keep the rug in place on smooth surfaces.
All rug sizes are approximate. Due to the difference of monitor colors, some rug colors may vary slightly. We try to represent all rug colors accurately. Please refer to the text above for a description of the colors shown in the photo.
Please keep in mind that new wool rugs may initially shed and have a natural capacity to shed for several months after purchase. This is normal due to the nature of construction of most wool rugs and not a defect. Click here to view our Wool Rug Care Guide.
