Fun Activities for Father’s Day

Looking for something to do this Father’s Day? Here are some ideas for all types of dads.

Father’s Day is coming up, and while just being together is a great gift, it’s nice to plan something special. No matter your dad’s personality, there’s an activity out there for you to do together. Here are a few of our favorite ways to spend the day.

Share a Meal Together

Gathering around the table is a great way to spend quality time with loved ones, and there are lots of ways to make a meal memorable. Does Dad have a favorite food? Give him the day off and serve it up for him! Breakfast in bed is a classic gesture and always welcome. If he has a signature dish, ask him for a cooking lesson. You’ll get a great meal and a bonding session at the same time. If you’re not the cooking type, surprise him with a dinner reservation at his favorite spot. Inviting the extended family over for a big barbecue is also a perfect way to spend the day. After all, who doesn’t love a Sunday barbecue in June? You handle the burgers and hot dogs, ask everyone else to take care of sides and desserts, and you’re in business.

Surprise Dad with Tickets

Instead of getting Dad another pair of funny socks (though we’ll never turn down a pair of Homer Simpson socks), give him the gift of an experience—which is proven to yield more happiness for its recipient than a material purchase. It doesn’t get much better than a sunny day at the ballpark if his favorite team has a home game. If he’s a theater fan, check out what’s playing in your town or a neighboring one. Concert or movie tickets are also always hits. Plus, you’ll be making memories you’ll hold onto for years to come.

Get Outside

Cross your fingers for good weather, and plan a day filled with fresh air. Go fishing, for a hike, on a bike ride, or a casual stroll. Plan a picnic in the park. If you’re lucky enough to live near the ocean, spend the day at the beach! Fresh air + vitamin D + Dad = good times.

Watch Dad’s Favorite Movie

Your dad has been around longer than you have, and chances are there’s a movie he always talks about (and quotes, ad nauseam), but you haven’t seen yet, even though he’s told you about how amazing it is a zillion times. If you’re looking for something low-key but meaningful, Father’s Day is a good time to indulge his cinematic whims. He’ll be sharing something he really cares about with you, plus he gets to watch his favorite movie (which you can then quote right along with him)!

Happy Father’s Day!
