Patio Paradise: Get Your Outdoor Space Ready for Warm Weather Entertaining

Get your backyard, deck, or patio ready for prime party time!

Summer is on its way, and we can already feel the warmer temperatures, see the sunshine, and hear the sizzle of the barbecue. That means it’s time to start prepping. After all, you can never be too early or too ready for one of those perfect warm days. Here’s what you need to do.

Assess the Situation

Check on all your outdoor pieces, from furniture and grilling equipment to rugs and lighting. It’s been a long fall and even longer winter, and unless you’re incredibly organized, chances are you don’t remember exactly what you got rid of at the end of last season and what needs to be replaced or repaired. Turn on the lights, check propane and tiki torch levels, assess the state of your outdoor entertaining set, and take inventory of your grilling and party supplies.

Take Action

There’s no time like the present to get yourself organized. Those furniture cushions you’ve had enough of? Find their replacements now. For items that need sprucing up (patio table and umbrella, we’re looking at you), have cleaning supplies on hand. You want to make sure you spend that first nice day enjoying the sun, not power washing your deck. As for any repairs that need to be made, now is the time to get those done.

Get the Grill in Gear

Make sure your grill is working and stock up on charcoal or propane if needed. Check your tools and utensils, and replace any that are damaged. Then give everything a good cleaning and store them in an easy-to-reach place.

Prepare for Parties

The best part of outdoor space is sharing it with others. Check on your umbrellas, table, and seating, and make any repairs and replacements necessary. Do the same with your serveware, dishes, glassware, barware, and cutlery.

Set Up Storage Space

Now that you’ve got everything ready to go, you need to figure out where it’s going to live for the season. Since you’re probably not entertaining and grilling every day (and because sometimes it rains), an all-weather storage unit is a great idea. When it’s time to put everything away again, you can just bring the box inside.
