Style Spotlight: Goth Halloween

When it comes to Halloween decor, there&rsquo;s nothing wrong with your standard-issue black and orange. It&rsquo;s just that it&rsquo;s a little&hellip; basic. This year, why not go for some drama? Pile on the black for a ghoulish goth effect. Don&rsquo;t be afraid&ndash;we promise it&rsquo;ll be chic.

Decorate Outside

If you&rsquo;re having a party or expecting trick-or-treaters, door decor is a must. We love this fringe piece with spiders, skulls, and bats on any window or door (or drape it over a vintage lamp for extra witchiness). It doesn&rsquo;t immediately scream Halloween, but if you look at it for a few seconds, the filigree bats and skulls make themselves noticed. A skull doormat says &ldquo;Welcome,&rdquo; but spookily. Add an on-theme weather vane to complete the look. Boo!

Indoor Horror

Don&rsquo;t limit yourself to the lawn&ndash;express yourself on the inside, too. This purple candy skull throw pillow isn&rsquo;t going to scare anyone, but fun is also a big part of Halloween. It&rsquo;s super easy to add it to your couch or swap it for one of your usual throws. For those who like their scary on the down low, here&rsquo;s a subtle skull-and-crossbones-pattern rug that comes in 5&rsquo; x 7&rsquo; and 8&rsquo; x 10&rsquo; sizes. Haunt your mantel or coffee table with this eerie, flickering LED witch lantern.

Dress Up the Dinner Table

You can also give your kitchen table a Halloween makeover. Use a black tablecloth to set the mood. You can add pops of color with your dishes and serveware. Bonus: It&rsquo;s much harder to see any spills on a darker color, which is especially great when you have kids. For something different and eye-catching, go with a spider web theme.

Even tap water goes down like a magic potion when sipped from a hefty chalice. Now imagine a cabernet. This plate is decorated with skulls, but it&rsquo;s more pretty than frightening. Add it to a set of black or white (or orange) dishes for just a hint of holiday. Or go all in and get a bunch of them! The black version of this enameled cast iron pot is about as chic as cucurbits get, but in burnt orange, it exudes the festive spirit. It goes from stovetop to oven to table for a dramatic presentation of an autumnal stew.

Style Spotlight: Elegant Halloween Decor

When Halloween rolls around, many people gleefully deck their halls with cobwebs, skulls, and spiders, but somehow I just can&rsquo;t warm up to the idea of a fake tarantula gracing my front porch. Maybe it&rsquo;s arachnophobia or maybe just a penchant for a less ghoulish Halloween, but either way, I&rsquo;m looking to add some elegance to my Halloween decor this season.

If you&rsquo;re ready to celebrate the tradition and fun of the Oct. 31 holiday while ensuring that your home is still a boo-tiful reflection of your personal taste, read on!

Embrace Nature 
There&rsquo;s much more to Halloween than bats, black cats, and skeletons, and these elements can feel a bit overused. Instead, aim for a fresh, nature-themed approach to elegant Halloween decor. Incorporate natural sophistication into your decorating scheme via full moons, bare branches, and brightly hued autumn leaves&mdash;they evoke the traditional feelings of Halloween in an organic way.

Move Beyond Orange and Black 
We all know that pink and white represent Valentine&rsquo;s Day, green and red represent Christmas, and orange and black represent Halloween. But why restrict ourselves to this admittedly limited color palette?

Instead of bright, intense oranges, opt for warmer tones that are more pumpkin-like, then pair them &nbsp;with other dark colors&mdash;rich purples, for example&mdash;that provide an alternative to the often-overused black. A strong color scheme makes a statement and unexpected color combinations add excitement, especially during the relatively short Halloween season, so don&rsquo;t hesitate to use them.

Prefer lighter, brighter colors? Whites and yellows are another elegant way to expand your color scheme while giving a nod to that perennial favorite: candy corn.

Trendy Treats 
Just because you skip the ghosts and goblins doesn&rsquo;t mean that you have to bow out of all traditional Halloween elements. Have trick-or-treaters at your door? Present your candy selection in a classically stylish stainless steel octagonal candy dish, or serve up Halloween beverages with a Mason jar beverage dispenser, then leave a spooky message on the chalkboard label (Transylvania Iced Tea, anyone?).

So go ahead! Feel free to skip the witches and bats and greet Halloween on your own terms. Your newfound decorating freedom is just the potion you need to magically transform your home into a hauntingly beautiful Halloween abode with nary a tarantula in sight.

Get the Look: Modern Farmhouse Serveware

Is it just us, or are you swooning over everything modern farmhouse these days too? We can’t get enough. It’s the look you’re seeing everywhere that takes a traditional country feel ( lots of wood) and adds a bit of industrial chic sleek (lots of metal) to bring it to the present. Wood is a staple of modern farmhouse decor. We’d go so far as to say it’s the staple. And, boards are really, really useful, not to mention great-looking. You’ve probably seen these as cheese servers, but we like to use them for all kinds of hors d'oeuvres.

Neutral Everything

You’re going for a natural look, and so most of your serveware will likely be neutral. Muted Colors

While most of your pieces should be neutral, there’s definitely room for color. The key here is subtlety. You don’t want anything too splashy or flashy, but some muted colors here and there are a nice touch and bring warm, homey vibes to your table. Try using blues and greens, or deep reds and pinks (but not all at once), as accents.
