Camp Activities

Packing for sleepaway camp is all about being prepared ? you can?t plan for every scenario but there are some things you can anticipate. Use the camp checklist as a guide ? no doubt they recommend a flashlight, rain gear and an umbrella, but they may neglect to call out the need for batteries, a laundry bag or a smart phone/camera pouch. Make sure your travel bags are packed with all the essentials ? a grooming kit, toiletry bag, shower shoes, bath towel, first aid kit and sanitizing wipes are basics whether you?re backpacking or using rolling duffle bags to get to the dorm; items such as cell phone chargers and headphones are the sort of travel amenities you simply can?t live without, and may not be able to easily replace once you?ve left home. A well-stocked weekend bag should contain sample size toiletries along with all your favorite hair care and skin care products, so you don?t need to raid the bathroom before you go; a travel soap case, toothbrush and toothpaste is nice to have on hand as well. Pack your mini speakers and headphones so you can enjoy your favorite tunes and tuck a multi-outlet surge protector in your luggage to power and charge laptops, tablets and other sensitive electronics. Plan and anticipate bad weather ? your basic travel gear should include an emergency rain poncho along with wet bags for everything from swimsuits and damp towels to soaked clothing and soggy shoes; stain remover and travel detergent along with fabric refresher can help to keep your travel wardrobe shipshape. A flashlight is helpful when you are in unfamiliar surroundings or need to make a late-night trip to the latrine. Travel can be tiring ? don?t arrive hungry ? pack some nutrition or energy bars for a quick meal on the go and make travel delays more bearable.
